True. I somehow missed that. Good thing you pointed it out. In that case, I really do not see why you would get one of those surround headsets. Since they do their own audio-processing, they completely ignore your sound card. It seems that you already have almost everything you need, and it is better than what most headsets offer. All you need is a mic. There are several options. I use a Zalman clip on mic.

There are some that don't do their processing, because they're "true" surround sound headsets with a full set of 5.1 speakers in each ear, but they don't sound better than those that are just stereo headsets with special processing. Even when you have a sound card for them.

I like the audio quality of the Senn HD555s. But they do not do 3D surround sound !
I tried messing around with my soundblaster drivers...but these headphones are not Dolby digital certified..they just do regular stereo.

thanks for the advice on everything so far...

They don't have to be dolby digital certified. Just set your speakers to "headphones" instead of "2.1." in the Creative software. Then enable CMSS 3D surround.

Then, in "Manage Audio Devices" (just search for it, or right click the speaker in the tray and select "playback devices"), set your speakers to 5.1. Then fire up a game and it should work in simulated surround. It's a little strange to set up but that's how you do it. Also make sure the game recognizes that it's 5.1 and not 2.1.

The HD555s definitely do surround, follow the advice of the post above to get it working.

I'll try this out tonight powermonkey ! wow, it might just solve my problems.

I need the surround sound mostly for games, like call of duty, battlefield, skyrim - the usual suspects.

will let you know... smile.gif

great settings recommendations...modern warfare 3 sounds amazing now, i can hear things more clearly, especially background sound effects now seem to have more depth.

Not sure if i really need to buy any new shiny hardware now.....
