Possible Dead Mobo

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I have a p55m ud2 which i recently got stable with my i5 750 at 3.8ghz (19x191) . I left it running last night with a prime95 test running and it crashed. And I mean crashed. This morning when I woke up it did not boot at all. I got some dead boot loops and decided to test the psu, so i went to microcenter and got a 600 watt thermaltake (had a 550 rosewill). This got the PC to have consistant power and all fans booted up nicely. Mobo did not go into post or bios. I tried to clear cmos by removing battery and putting a screwdriver on the cmos jumper but after clearing the cmos is just goes back into the same dead inconsistant boot loop it was doing before the new psu. PLEASE HALP!! I think it could be the dead mobo as 2 gfx cards did not work and for troubleshooting purposes I am only using 1 hdd. Another weird thing is the hsf doesnt always spin after booting, but if i give it a tap with my finger it gets enough juice to spin at that rpm forever. I will post some pics if you guys need clarification but I would love some help and advice on getting into the bios. If it is a dead mobo anyone have any suggestions for where to buy an 1156 mobo? and if my cpu gone with it? Thanks in advance guys.

Reset CMOS, take away all unnecessary components (ie boot with only 1dimm of ram, no HDD) And try to enter the BIOs. Any success?

ok an update: it is now booting with no bios and no post. I have tried multiple techniques to reset CMOS and none have work, tonight I will sleep with the battery out. I am assuming it is a dead board as I've had this board for a while and after reading more about the issue it looks like UD2 boards didn't have MOSFET coolers ? so I feel like my 1.270 vtt/imc voltage just fried it during a prime test. I am okay with selling my i5 750 and rebuying into 1155 since microcenter has a deal I can get a mobo and i5 2500k for under 300. eBay is not very good to me and all the boards are overpriced, used, and low quality. I will post back in the morning when I try after a long CMOS reset.

also Idk If I mentioned this in the previous post but when I boot the CPU fan does not spin, however when I give it a tap with my finger it continues to spin from electrical energy.

will post again in the morning.

ok another weird thing on that topic. I had all power saving features disabled - however o had the emergency shutdown set to 80 degrees. I turn off prime if I catch it going over 75 but that night I left it running over night with a movie playing in the background. I had a feeling maybe it hit 80* and did its shutdown, but that doesn't explain why it won't boot - or even post - now.

I was going to mention a dead southbridge then i read you booted up w/o BIOS or POST, can you get into BIOS now? (In a laptop that i happen to have died recently, reason? Dead NB+SB altogether)

ok so I went to microcenter this morning and got a new shiny 1155 3570k and z77 uds3 or whatever. was just over 200 and brought me into the current gen of motherboards so if I kill it I can upgrade it (2 year warranty for 7$ also well worth it).
I am going to try to sell my broken part and working CPU on eBay if anyone is interested.

but now I have more questions. was the power failure related to my psu? (rosewill) it seems like it was possibly cause of high voltages and power draw going through a bad mobo (1,35 vcore & 1.27 vtt) but if this is the case I need to know the correct safe voltages ASAP because I manage my over clock as well and don't want to be responsible for hardware failures on his end. (175x21 1.27 vcore 1.17 vtt) he uses the same mobo and CPU and passes prime95 every time with Max temps in the 60s. I also realized that the mobo pch heat sink is directly under the pci-e slot which is a problem becaus I can't replace it with anything aftermarket. so yeah it you guys could give any knowledge or info on the true cause of this issue that would be great. I did try the over night battery removal to clear CMOS and no bueno.
