Looking for headphones

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm looking into getting into some hi fi headphones. I mostly listen to rock, heavy metal, post hardcore, speed core, etc.

I'm not to concerned on cost although I don't see myself buying Sennheiser HD800. In the meantime I have already picked up an O2 + ODAC.

I know that grados seem to be the king of rock music (or at least what I have read online).

One headset in particular that I have looked at and went back to is the q 701 only because I know that it has good sound stage (I would also use them for gaming). However from what I have read they don't sound that great with rock music due to the lack of bass. Can anyone that owns these confirm this.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Didn't know if it would If I posted music from some of the bands I listen to the most

Note (One of these songs may be explicit, just don't want anyone to get offended)

thanks

I have the Sennheiser HD380 PRO headset and I love them. Great punchy bass and mids. They are kinda bulky though. I only like using them at home or if I am working on my laptop somewhere.

Take a look at the ATH-AD900x. The folks over at Head-Fi are saying they are a great pair of cans. Check out the last two pages of the link to get the general idea.

did you buy the O2 and ODAC already? AKG Q701 and Sennheiser HD800 are not the answer. I would look at the Beyerdynamic DT770 32 ohm Anniversary Edition and Grado SR225i.

Yes I already have the O2 + ODAC, I bought them ahead of time, as in this week. the only reason I mentioned the HD800 is because I'm not willing to spend $1500.

The HD800s would be the answer, if he had the money.

The DT770 is great for cheap bass, but the sound stage is not as great as the Q701s or grados.

I am tempted to say the fostex T50-RP in this case simply because it is orthodynamic. With dynamic drivers and that type of music, my ears get sort of tired. IDK about you guys, but I don't like harsh music for too long before I need a break.

You might want to take a look at the HE-400s, or if it is just plain out of your budget, then look at the Audiotechnica ATH-AD900x like airisom2 suggested.

he isn't listening to classical. heavy metal has a lot of poor recordings and doesn't need that kind of soundstage tongue.gif

Audeze LCD-2 and LCD-3 are the answer.

the perfect headphone doesn't exist much less one for multiple applications. Audio Technica AD700 are on sale for $99. open, airy, bass light, comfortable. everything you need in a headphone for gaming. pick up another headphone for music. problem solved.

What do you mean by poor recordings? Also I do listen some classic metal, Metallica, tool(if you would consider them metal). I also like such bands as the cars, ac/dc, tom petty, etc.
