[ADVICE NEEDED]: LOW COST BUILD

Thread Starter
Hey there OCN!

I'm trying to build a computer on a low budget. I wanted to double check with the pro's and ask you guys if the power supply would hold in conjunction with this item, and what would be the best GPU options for me.
I am trying to decide on which video cards to purchase, I'll post my questions below.

BUDGET FOR ITEMS NOT INCLUDING THE CASE/PSU: $500-600

CASE:
Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Power Supply:
SILVERSTONE ST56F 560W ATX 12V 2.01 & EPS 12V SLI Ready CrossFire Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

RAM:
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

CPU:
AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX

POSSIBLE GPU:
GIGABYTE GV-R785OC-2GD Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

This is the build that I came up with. Of these items I have purchased the Case and PSU, however I wanted to see if you guys think the power supply will hold for all these items. Or if there are any tips or feedback you guys could give me to make this build better.

I have a HDD that is not too large but I plan on upgrading as soon as I know everything else is up and working. I'm not too sure if this is the best choice for my GPU - I am working on a budget and this video card seemed reasonable and had good ratings.

I'm hoping this build can run games efficiently, hopefully with some time as the GPU card's prices decline I'd like to double up.

Please let me know what you guys think, thank you for your time!

Get an 8320 and use the extra money to get a 7870. Also, you could spend much less on RAM. G.Skill Sniper is pretty good. I can also reccomend Samsung 30nm ram.

CPU Debate:

AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core - $199.99

AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core - $179.99

AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core - $139.99

I'm really liking the idea of getting the 6300, however, will I lose anything in the 2 core trade off over time? Would it be in my best interest to spend a bit more and get eight cores?

GPU Debate:

GIGABYTE GV-R787OC-2GD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX - $249.99

GIGABYTE GV-R785OC-2GD Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX - $194.99

The only difference I saw in between both of these cards was the 1280 [7870] vs 1024 [7850] stream processors. If you guys think the extra 256 is worth the 50 dollars I would happily make that switch.

I will check out cheaper RAM, I just want it to be solid. I'm also not a professional when it comes to the "timing" I'm not sure what would work best for this set up.

Thank you for your replies, I couldn't see LuckySeven's link (broken link)

What do you guys think? 8/6 cores? And $50 worth it for the better vid card?

Excluding the Case and PSU which I already own. I don't want to spend much over $500. But if I had to go in the 5 hundred for a system that can last me and could be easily upgraded in the future, then I would spend the extra.

For gaming (at least for now) you will not lose much by dropping to a 6300. Unless you really REALLY like battlefield 3 64 player servers, a 6300 would be fine.

Posting from phone, sorry. This is the sapphire 7870 xt which runs a Tahiti core from the 7950. This is the best bang for buck right now

This! Not many games taking advantage of more than 6 cores atm. The 6300 clocks just as high, if it means you get (dramatically) more Gpu power then its definitely worth the trade off
