[Massively] Smedley announces PlanetSide 2 server merges

PlanetSide 2's servers are going to get a bit cozier in the not-too-distant future. SOE CEO John Smedley announced upcoming server merges on Twitter today. "Server merges soon. Info coming by Monday. No server transfers coming till after that's done. Wouldn't be right doing it the other way around."

While we'll have to wait for more information, Smedley did say that "too many people went to some servers and not as many went to others" and that this should in not be seen as a sign that the game hasn't been as successful as might have been hoped.

This was what the game needed most desperately. Big battles are what this game have to offer, and on some servers, you'd almost never see them. They're overdue with this, but I'm glad to hear it.

It's not just that though. The draw distance is just atrocious. There might be a big raging 500 person battle just outside the facility you are in, and you won't have any clue until you get killed by an invisible sniper and respawn with a thousand enemies camping your spawn room.

This sounds good. I wonder though... maybe they did overestimate the server space they'd need. I'm down for larger battles, the size on Helios is a little underwhelming.

this sounds like it could really help the game out. Last game I played that did the same thing got %10 more people playing after the merge
