Opinion on design of rendering laptop machine needed..... - Page 2

Well, the panther is basically a clevo p270wm... A lot of companies buy clevo barebones to resell them on other brands (sager, originpc, etc...)

Ah, Okay..... I'm actually looking at the P370. So I just need to find out what's available in mobo's and buy the rest of the components myself, at least if I went with the Xeon.

EDIT: I found the Clevo site. Lots of options, but not sure if I can buy direct. May have to stick with RJ Tech as they seem to be the only ones I can buy a true barebones from, unless someone knows another supplier I could compare with......

You can get the Sager NP9570. That'll probably handle whatever you need. biggrin.gif

Also, the P370EM doesn't support the Xeon processors. The 3960X would suit your needs better if you're doing rendering and such. Mostly because you'd have access to the ultra high-end CPUs out on the market at the moment.

So look for the Clevo P570WM if you want a seriously powerful machine.

One thing that doesn't seem to have been discussed here is to what extent this machine needs to be able to run off battery. All this talk of desktop CPUs and high-end GPUs is fine, as long as it'll mostly be plugged into aircraft power when in use. I wouldn't expect more than a few minutes of load on the suggested components out of any battery though, although light desktop work will probably allow a reasonable on-battery runtime.
