I never played the crysis series and now that 3 has come out i wanted to play but wanted to play through the whole series. I downloaded a copy from gamestop since microsoft said it was compatible. As soon as i start it, screen goes black then it says that an error forced it to close. Im running win8 with a radeon 6670 with latest drivers installed. I tried running compatabilty mode for xp with sp3 and vista, neither works. Any advice?

In case anyone ever has this question again I figured out that it was an issue with using win 8 64 bit. You need to download a crysis bin64 file which EA doesn't even give you in order to run it.

BTW... they give you a key. You can use the key and redeem it on Origin. There you can get the 64bit file... which honestly. Is not needed.

I run the game on 32bits cause the 64bit one runs slower for me. So this leads me to think that the version you got from GS is probably not patched.

Hopefully you fixed the problem. thumb.gif

Here is my experience on this.

Windows 8 Pro x64
GTX 670
OS on SSD
Games all install on a secondary HDD

I'm using an Origin registered Crysis which I've installed to: D:\ORIGIN GAMES

My first problem was I would get a login message and no matter what I used for it, it would not connect to EA servers to register.

Here is the fix: You need to have the Default install location set in the Origin preferences before launching the game for the first time. Regardless of where the game is actually installed. Once I set the location to default in preferences I launched the game, typed the correct login, and it connected and launched game.

Second issue, black screen and CTD.

Here is the fix: In Origin click on My Games and hover over Crysis. Click on the "more details" button and then click on "Game Details". In the Command Line Arguments type this: -dx9
Click Apply. This is forcing DX9.

You should be able to launch the game and play now. At least this did it for me.
