Just Bought I7 3770k Please Help!!!

Thread Starter
So I bought a Dell Xps 8300 when I first graduated high school and now I realize how bad of a PC it actually is when I do a lot of video work. So the first thing I did was upgraded to the i7-3770k not realizing it wasn't compatible with my mobo. I saved some money and am looking to get a new case as well as a power supply and mobo. I'm just wondering if all of this will work together before I make another dumb purchase. THANKS!!!!

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182132
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837
Current GPX card looking to upgrade: NVIDIA Geforce GT 420
Current Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

Anything more you need to know let me know and I'll get back to you asap! Thanks so much!

Everything looks good but the GPU. GT420 is bad. Your Dell would be massively improved even with just a better GPU. The XPS 8300 shouldnt be that slow. I imagine its just the GPU sucking so badly that it brings your whole computer down when you need it.

Makes complete sense GPU's are just so expensive! any reccomendations to a good GPU? around say 200$?

You can pick up a GTX560 for under $200.

For right at $200 you can get a Nvidia GTX660 or a AMD 7870 Ghz. Out of those two, Id go with the 7870. Performance between the two is really close though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006662&IsNodeId=1&Description=7870&bop=And&CompareItemList=48|14-161-404^14-161-404-TS%2C14-125-443^14-125-443-TS

According to Passmark's GPU test, a 7870 is roughly about 10x as powerful as your GT420.

What are the specs on your Dell? i5 or i7? memory?

Are you gaming or just video work? The iGPU on the 3770k I bet is better than the gt420.
It would let you still do video work in the mean time while you purchase a new gpu.
