SLI and CF question

Before directly asking my question I would like to give a little background to my problem. I recently purchased a Samsung SA950 which is a 1920x1080 120Hz monitor (I purchased this monitor with the increase refresh rate in mind). I have found however that in newer games (e.g. farcry 3) that my 5970 simple cannot cut the mustard and is no-ware close to 120 frames averaging at about 70 or so. Hoping on previous trends I was hoping to see new AMD or NVidia cards in the 1st or 2nd quarter of this year. However it now seems that AMD will be delaying release of the 8xxx series to the end of the year or beyond, while NVidia seems to be doing the same (bar the titan series which is of use and value to no-one). With this in mind what would be a wise recourse. I was thinking of either 670s in SLI or 7970s in Cross fire. Of these 2 configurations which would you recommend? At this refresh rate could I get away with a single card solution? Or would it be wise to play the waiting game (is there anything coming just over the horizon)

Thanks in advance

I am also in this situation. My 6950 hits frames anywhere between 80 and 110 on average on fps games I play (unfortunately at high settings, not maxed). So I sacrifice a bit of graphics for the higher frame rates. I am okay with this because I really do not notice a difference in fps over the 90s.

In my research to upgrade, I think that if I had dual 6950s I would get much better frames because these cards scale real well. I found that 2x 6950s are equivalent to one 7970 or a GTX 670/680. So your 670 or 7970 sli suggestions may be a bit overkill, but will last a while. You could always get one and see how that does?
