[TechpowerupAMD "Jaguar" Micro-architecture Takes the Fight to Atom with AVX, SSE4, Quad-Core - Page 2

Well, Intel do have the 22nm Quadcore Baytrail Out of order + Ivy IGPU units coming Q3/Holiday this year, should be competing with this Jaguar.

Instead of Consoles(which I have no plan on getting), I am more interested in Tegra4 vs Baytrail vs Temash battle for Surface RT2 & other $599 Hybrid Tablet platforms.

Doesn't really help PC gaming this being in PS4 and the next Xbox.

It's clocked to low to be of any use

It helps in the sense of making porting easier.

Developers should be able to make games for PC and port them to consoles (and vice-versa) easily.

With the compilers developers have access too it's not exactly hard to port a game over now....... it's all time and money related.

We won't see bad ports next generation because the CPU is a lot weaker compared to what we have on PC now.

You know those theoretical schematic benchmarks that mean nothing on PC because the end world results never reflect what is projected? Well, in consoles, developers have a much better chance at reaching those performance numbers then PC developers as they use more hardwire coding techniques then universal ones. This is why you still see the 7800GT and HD2900 performance-like cards in current gen consoles rival most modern technologies. Right now, console design's main threat was limited memory capacities... next generation consoles aren't going to have this issue.

I wonder how well AMD cards are going to perform on ports when compared to nvidia cards. AMD might have a huge lead here soon.

some tablets with this would be awsome

I know how they work rolleyes.gif

But a modern PC Quad core clocked at 3.3Ghz+ is going to have no problem running code from a 1.6Ghz 8 Core CPU.

And in reality it will more then likely be closer to 6 cores as they'll keep 1-2 for the OS and background tasks.

this is exciting. hope it doesn't turn up like bulldozer rolleyes.gif

Running at subpar 720p, 30fps, horribly low texture resolution, draw distance, and many other removed details, and horrible AA isn't what I call optimization..

My 8800GT was perfectly able to run Dragon Age on my PC when I had my low res CRT. Not a lot to do with optimization.

Intel Silvermont 22nm vs AMD Jaguar 28nm is the battle to watch for. Given a completely new microarchitecture on Intel's industry leading 22nm trigate transistors Intel should mostly take the lead on CPU perf and perf/watt. ARM A15 (Tegra 4) is not in the same league as these two cores. also here is the AMD ISSCC presentation.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/126362330/ISSCC2013-Final-v5-pdf

Its confirmed that Jaguar (Kabini) is on a TSMC 28nm high k process. AMD has gone even more aggressive on power saving. a lot of the info is very technical. maybe electrical engineers / chip design specialists would understand it thumb.gif
