[PCW] Glass Video Shows New Features - Page 6

I honestly don't know why the Value argument is coming up in this thread. Obviously it is a very limited run, and you physically need to fly and attend an event in SF/LA/NYC to pick up your glasses. This is not done, and short of google coming out and constantly repeating that, they are showing off what it can do, and giving you some insight into what they think it will do in the future. Why are we jumping down their throats like we expect this to be perfect now?

Tell me about it! I didn't know my neighbor until one time the power went out and we both got out on to the street to find out what had happened. We stood there talking for about an hour and he is a pretty cool guy. Haven't seen him much since, but we still communicate...online that is.

I wonder if they will have facial recognition built into the camera. I mean, could you use that to make a novelty app to verify "power levels"? smile.gif Also, think about Glass paired with Google Goggles. The thought of having so much information at your fingertips is pretty sweet.

I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of these though. I have so many ideas on what to use them for!

P.S.
Universal Translator!

Really? Explain please.

I was kind of hoping for augmented reality googe-maps that would project the path in front of me, or something like that (no idea how they'd do that, but it would be great).

Great concept, kind of weak right now, not $1500 worthy (seriously I could get a Titan AND some SSDs for that... or THREE 680s).

That all sounds good in theory but this not very practical for something you are meant to be wearing for most of the day. Its far more distracting than the current implementation without really any further benefit. It would look cool though Lol. The price shouldn't even be discussed atm, I'm just happy tech like this is gonna be out (even in limited quantities) by the end of the year. I also don't see how this is any more distracting than burying your face in a smartphone like 90% of people do already do.

What the hell is wrong with you people? There are subjective screening criteria that have to be met in order to make it into this round of pre-orders. Google is targeting DEVELOPERS, not whiney little babies that are going to complain about a $1500 price tag. 1500 dollars is worth it for developers that can get an early jump into Glass app market.

Also, fix your god damn title. -2

I can't wait for the hacks of these things that make it look like a bus is about to hit you or something...it would be epic...until a driver swerved off the road or something at least. You know some sort of trick would happen though.

No need to be so harsh, they didn't mention anything about developers anywhere in the screening process. My friend was able to get his hands on one of the Chromebooks and he is not a developer. They even let him keep it afterwards. They are looking for: "We’re looking for bold, creative individuals who want to join us and be a part of shaping the future of Glass.". That doesn't completely narrow it down to just developers(although they will be able to most easily afford it). If I had the money, I would apply, but sadly I don't(spend tax refund already).

Before, they were looking for official "developers." This time they are looking for people who are effectively developers who will do something useful with Glass.

The point is that the 1500 dollar price tag is not meant for your average consumer. The average consumer cost will be much lower, as per prior interviews I've watched with Google spokespeople. The title is misleading, and is not even in line with the News article posting guidelines.
