7950 or GTX670

Thread Starter
I know there has been a lot of postings about the two video cards but I have this question.
I'm looking at replacing my Gainwood GTX570 phantom which has been great but I would like to upgrade.
I have two choices from a local Aussie supplier:

Sapphire HD7950 VAPOR X 3GB OC W/BOOST = AUS$325
or
Gainward GeForce GTX670 Phantom 2GB = AUS385 - (GTX670's normally retail from $400-500)

I have used Nvidia cards for years so unsure of the AMD card
I found FC3 a bit of a struggle with my GTX570 and looking forward to playing Crysis 3 but I would like as much "eye candy" as possible.
I'm assuming with the HD7950's 3GB memory verses the GTX 570's 2GB that more memory will be better, compared to my GTX570 which has only 1.3GB
I have seen the Nvidia verses AMD opinions all over the web but I just want an opinion on what card will get me the best performance for the $300 -400 price range (7970's normally retail from $415 - $500).

I was unsure about going with AMD after years with nvidia, but I don't regret getting my 7970 for a second (at the time I couldn't find a 680 to save my life), considering an OC'd 7950 can match a 7970 and the price difference, I'd go with the Vapor X, thumb.gif

Edit: that is, if physX isn't important to you (thinking ahead and considering future console ports and that they were revelead to be using jaguar - Havok engine, it shouldn't matter).

Ditto - and the extra compute power is there also!

Yep, and you get Crysis 3 for nothing too! Even I with my 670 would recommend a 7950 over it.

go with a HD 7950 boost. here are a couple of good options

PCS+ HD 7950 boost (950 mhz boost)- AUD 299
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1311&products_id=21965

http://www.powercolor.com/Global/products_features.asp?id=425

Sapphire HD 7950 boost (925 mhz boost)- AUD 329

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1311&products_id=21564
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&pid=1713&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

both cards have good cooler. stock voltage of 1.25v. easily overclocks to 1100 - 1150 Mhz. pcs+ has an amazing price. you should be able to get the crysis 3 and bioshock infinite game bundle. check with pccasegear and AMD customer support.

I just orded my Sapphire 7950
Will have it early next week.
Thanks for the replies to my question, they really helped to make up my mind to upgrade to the 7950.
One question though and I'm sure this has been asked before.
To unisntall the Nvidia drivers do I just use control panel-programs-uninstall or is there a better way?
I know there are programs like Drivesweeper etc., do I need to use them to delete all Nvidia files?

1. Uninstall your current graphics card in device manager
2. shut down PC and install the new graphics card.
3. boot into windows and install the latest amd 13.2 beta 6 drivers.

this should work. if you have any issues post here.
