Windows 8 issues

Thread Starter
I am not sure that this is the correct subforum, so sorry if it is not.

Anyway, my first issue comes in at drivers. Running windows 8 pro on my desktop I am having issues installing the motherboard drivers. Mainly want the USB3 driver, Marvell driver, Intel LAN driver, and chipset driver, but the Asus drivers from windows 7 (they don't have windows 8 drivers) simply don't work. So, without knowing the exact model of the hardware, is there a way to get the drivers elsewhere for 8?

Hey buddy

I also have a motherboard from Asus and install only the Windows 8 compatible drivers.

I believe the rest is taken care off by Windows 8 automatically

For example the USB 3.0 drivers are being handled automatically by Windows 8.

Forgive me being direct, but IF ASUS HAD THEM I WOULD HAVE THEM. The options from asus are below.

The Windows drivers for the USB is fine. I can deal with that.
Marvell SATA 3 and M$ driver for SATA 3 is not okay. If I was fine with 250MB reads, then I would have left teh dang SSD in the laptop.
Internet, latency went up. That is not fine in any way. Same hardware. Drivers by INtel would bring it back to normal.

At this rate, I might as well just grab !# and drop windows for good this time. Same idea, as I cant game on this as it stands now.

Hmmm I see now

you have no Win 8 drivers for that motherboard at all.

Weird. I wonder why Asus did not update it.

For Intel drivers can you go to this site

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

and see automatic driver update will work ?

what model of the mother board? it should say on the mother board if its a desk top mother board. did you try using cpu-z to fine out the model and specs?

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

As a side note, when w8 came out there were no drivers, we used w7 drivers, maybe try install the w7 drivers to find out what you actually need and try updateing them.

Make sure that you use the storage driver given by Windows 8. When I manually downloaded that latest Rapid Storage driver from intel it killed my install. Couldn't refresh, couldn't reset, just SOL.

When I try the windows 7 drivers it says

Good to know, but I am not just going to stay with the M$ drivers. The read rates make the drive a waste of money at the least. If INtel drivers don't work, then like said, I will just go back to Linux.

Some hardware just isnt compatible with Windows 8....

And windows is not compatible with some people. But I still don't think that is a result just yet. At the least Asus is being a ***** with their drivers. Or Microsoft is ripping people off yet again.

There really isn't much difference b/w the M$ driver performance and the Intel. The Marvell one will be slightly better IF you use the Marvell port however, that controller should ne used with optical drives and HDDs really.

That makes no sense. Seq speeds hardly make a difference for a SSD. Even then, if you are using the Intel SATA 6Gb/s ports you should not be getting SATA 2 speeds. You can simply load the RST driver 11.6 or 11.7 through device manager manually if anything. However, the exe runs fine in windows 8.

Find your chipsets/controllers and manually load the windows drivers in device manager if the exes do not work.

Also, once you get your LAN running then most drivers will be downloaded and installed anyways.
