GTX 780 anticipation and rumors thread.. - Page 8

I didn't know Maxwell was coming out that soon. I'm waiting for 880 or 870 now. I thought 2014 was for 700 series not 800 series. Yeah, someone wasn't thinking right when release 700 and 800 close to each other. biggrin.gif

If 780 is not a Maxwell part then its launch window imo have to be sometime soon(next 3 month) with Maxwell due sometime in 2014.
true, I did hear about the GTX 780 later THIS year, I think fall season or start of fourth quarter..

NVIDIA CEO Updates NVIDIA’s Roadmap
Quote:
Jen-Hsun Huang, sketched out today a future where mobile, desktop and supercomputer technologies intersect in powerful and surprising ways.

Speaking at the GPU Technology Conference, Huang described how GPUs are already finding their way into applications that were undreamed of a decade ago.
NVIDIA’s Kepler GPU architecture – introduced last year — is not only a runaway hit with gamers. It underpins a new generation of hyper-efficient supercomputers, including Titan, the world’s fastest system.
Next up: new GPUs and mobile processors that promise to put the efficiency and speed of our massively-parallel GPU architectures into an ever-broader array of devices.

In GPUs:
Maxwell will offer unified virtual memory, giving CPUs access to the speedy memory built into GPUs, and vice versa.
In Volta, due after Maxwell, memory modules will be piled atop one another and placed on the same silicon substrate as the GPU core itself – a radical idea called ‘stacked DRAM’ – giving these new GPUs access to up to one terabyte per second of bandwidth. That’s enough to move the equivalent of a full Blu-Ray disc worth of data through a chip in just 1/50th of a second. “Unbelievable stuff,” Huang said.

Is it worth it to get a 670/680 this late into the game?

I was looking at SLI 680's instead or a 690 (i know i know, SLI 580's are fine, I'm just an overkill king). biggrin.gif

I ask the same questions and I still upgraded my unit anyways....
I went from: N460GTX Hawk > SLi 460 Hawk's > N570GTX PE/OC > EVGA GTX 580 SC > N660Ti (GTX) PE/OC > N670(GTX) PE/OC
in about two years time in my 'daily driver' rig..

you running a GTX 570 1.25GB, is that what your on now and if so then what resolution you playing at.?
that's a hard call and without knowing more
it wouldn't be fair for me to say but, I'm leading towards maybe... wink.gif

you need to wait mr. future overkill... wink.gif I'm running SLi 448's in my gaming rig 'night rider' and I'm waiting for the GTX 770 /780 for those.
with SLi 580's I'd be in no hurry for real.

these of course just my opinions...

I use my single 570 on a VG248 (144hz panel), online I play in 2d for the 144hz and single player games in 3d if it is fully supported. The single 570 in both regards is now showing its age : /. I can play BF3 but would really have to lower my settings significantly to get 120fps. Event with 570 SLI to get 100+fps, I had to turn shadow to low, no AA, everything else at high.

I personally don't care for >2-4MSAA and I'm also not too critical against FXAA (thought I avoid it if 4x MSAA is not too expensive [not the case with newer games]). And I don't HAVE to have everything at ultra and since I hate DOF, I think that helps alot in terms of performance.

If I do upgrade today, would you recommend a 670 PE (or the WF3x/2x from gigabyte, which ever is better) Or a 680 PE equivalent model (PE, WF3). If I get a 680, I would worse if a 780 comes out early summer. But the 670 not so much. However, the extra 100 for the 680 isn't too bad. Is it worth it over the 670 PE?

the GTX 680 is not worth the general retail price over the GTX 670, no, but if you can get one oon sale for only a few dollars more then hell ya.
out of the GTX 670's, look for one of these and then get the cheapest one of them..... (Gigabyte being the last option..)
ASUS DCU2
EVGA FTW
MSi PE/OC
Gigabyte WF3
