This thread is about DIGITAL games, of course you can't up and bring digital games to your friends. Not unless Sony allows for you to download them to a portable media device such as a flash drive.
You might want to doublecheck that. They said "No", but then they said "No*" and they haven't explained the * yet.

Your PC hasn't changed though. You may get newer hardware, but the hardware is still fundementally the same. New consoles often change each generation, PS2 used the Emotion Engine, PS3 uses a CELL CPU, PS4 is using an x86 CPU. Even if you update your CPU in your PC, it's still going to be x86, at least any pc within the past few years, unless you're still using a PPC, which which case people had to buy new programs for when they upgraded.

Just 1 part, but it's a vital part. Sure they could rewrite the game to work on a different architecture, but that would cost them money, and even worse is it'll cost them money for a feature few people honestly care about.

That is so full of crap.

Do I own my old GPU? No, I sold it on. Do I own my old phones? No, I sold them on.

Normal people sell things they don't use anymore. It's not about being cheapskates.

Thank you for agreeing with me and repeating what I said. XD
If you don't play the games for it, sell it. If you still play the games for the console you bought the games for, keep it. Seriously, it's common sense.

Did you read what I said, and others have said, consistently since backwards compatibility raised its head on the PS3, that many games don't run well on it.

That's a load of crap and you know it. Name some PS3 equivalents to the heyday of console RPGs. Where are the spiritual successors to Legend of Dragoon, Zone of the Enders, Saga Frontier, Vanguard Bandits, Gex, Star Ocean, Future Cop LAPD, Einhander, etc.? My favorite games, like Legend of Dragoon, just don't play well if at all on PS3. Lack of backwards compatibility has absolutely nothing to do with being a cheapskate and everything to do with there not being modern games on newer consoles that eclipse our favorite classics. Compared to the Armored Core 3 series, the newest ones blow. Let's not talk about Ace Combat...

I always read, unlike most people.
I KNOW it is not a load of crap. It is merely an observation. "Whatever saves you money." Is what I see. There are games on the PS2 that I still play, thus I have kept my PS2.
Even if the PS4 was backwards compatible, I would keep my PS3, mainly because I have the money to do so and my passion for gaming is a decent size.

Wow, so you're basically calling anyone who wants some form of BC cheapskates?

If you want to infer that, that is fine, but I am not implying it at all. I am merely saying that if you are getting rid of your old tech just for BC... that's just wrong.
I agree with Sony and Nintendo on this one. If you want your games on the new tech, you should purchase them so the companies can afford their overhead.
The same goes for the PC. I would expect an Age of Empires 2 remake to cost money for me to enjoy it on my 64bit OS.
I feel like I should support the industry and their rational decisions than just hating on their very fair decisions.

Edit: Oh and for the consoles that have had BC, be grateful, because MOST platforms have never had that.

Getting rid of a PS3, because (hypothetically) the PS4 plays PS3 games isn't wrong. It's common sense. Sure, some people like to keep them, and that's fine. There's no rule that says you must do it. But equally, that doesn't make it wrong for doing so.

I don't need to infer anything:

As already pointed out, BC would keep it going strong. And software emulation doesn't cost a lot at all. People do it for free.

A remake with new graphics, sure. That's a total overhaul. But, Age of Empires 2 works on 64bit systems anyway.

I said "It is like calling yourself", but calling everyone? I am not at all. That's inferring. I merely made a comparison. I could have also said the people don't manage things that well, or do not make enough money to keep it.
Moving to x86 is finally doable as x86 CPU's are now more powerful than they were in the past. Back in 2006, it was more logical to go Cell than x86 as it was more powerful at its time and was not surpassed in mainstream for a couple of years.
Emulating the PS3 when the PS3 is still in production would kill the PS3 off... That self-inflicting method is not wise. Even I can see the consequences of doing it. But then again, who is going to download 20 - 40GB games to run through an emulator on their PC? I could see that turning people off from piracy, but I can also see a lot of people doing it.
I have not been able to get mine to work. But oh well, if they made a remake, I would buy that.

Don't try to back out of it or make it how you might "make enough money to keep both". You're saying people are cheapskates for wanting to get rid of redundant items. If you had a PS4 that could play PS3 games, why keep the PS3 outside of a collectors hobby?

And Sony stopped production of the PS2 about a month ago, they stopped production of the PS1 well into the PS2 era. BC didn't kill off either.
