Thats not common sense - thats being short sighted. If they do 'port' games to ps4 they make their fanbase happy and more ppl buying the console. Besides, they already made $ on those games.

Actually it's neither, it's having a market research team that tells you you'd save more money than the backlash will cost you. Corporations aren't apt to spend money they made on anything but making more money, and spending significant amounts on backwards compatibility when the entire thing will be an afterthought by Holiday 2014 isn't making money.

BC is a luxury nothing more. I personally appropriate a console that can play previous generation games. Sure I could buy a PS 4, keep the PS3...but what if BC never existed and I wanted to play PS1 games? Well then I need to keep the PS1 too. That to me is the crappy part of not having BC, I don't want 6 consoles sitting there just because I really liked a few games. Which is why I don't and move on with my life lol Same goes for my VCR biggrin.gif

Bwwa? Running a Win 3.11/Win 95 game on modern Win 7/8 64 bit machine an it expecting it to just install and "work" is simply not the case or remotely the truth. I however can slap my NES/SNES and Genesis game cartridges into the machines and fire it right up and play them. Your statement is utterly invalid and wrong

Ummm send new download codes to those who purchased games from PSN when they buy a PS4?

Are you serious? You're comparing keeping the ORIGINAL consoles to upgrading 1 computer and not being able to play all old games? Try to slap that NES cartridge in a Wii U, and then come back.

How can you honestly think that's a fair comparison? Maybe if you kept the original computer that played those old games (just like you have kept the original console), it would be. Then again, your argument would be completely wrong, so I can see why you didn't bring that up.

Don't even try to come back and say "no one ever keeps the same computer, they always upgrade," since you know as well as I do the only PC components that stay the same from generation to generation (unless you upgrade every 4 months) are possibly the case, peripherals, and maybe even monitor.

Plus, there are lots of workarounds to get old games to still work with modern hardware. There are no such things for consoles. PC wins that argument.

It's simply not possible. It's not that Sony doesn't want to cut into their bottom line, it's that the games were programmed for a completely and utterly different architecture. It's simply flat-out 100% not possible. Every single game would have to be reprogrammed from the ground up for the PS4, which would cost each developer money, and would likely introduce a whole slew of new bugs. Again, not possible. I don't see why people are still fighting that.

meh, expected, but imo, they should go ahead and port a decent bit of first party stuff and of course, keep the peoples licences in tact for the ps4 version, and allow devs of other psn stuff have the ability to do the same, with no requirement to...
would also help them if they had ps2/1 backward compatibility just to really help out with alot of what people want to play (probably via emulation... im sure they could pull that off in-house with the hardware in the ps3 easily.)

If you don't make room for classic consoles for your TV area, your not a real gamer

I guess some people like Jeff Gerstmann aren't really gamers then since he keeps his old stuff in boxes.
