The only thing D3 has done for me was 80 hours I clocked in realizing I was a slave to the system, that I WILL not get back. And $60 that I could have spent on beer and case mods.

I really doubt that. May depend on what class/build you're using, but when you're kiting with a Wizard or Daemon Hunter you need a mouse with DPI/sensitivity cranked up. Controllers are great for some types of games, but a click fest like Diablo certainly isn't one of them.

I disagree. You don't need a keyboard and mouse at all. Games like this are very much playable with control pads if the correct twin analog stick control system is implemented for them. Sacred 2 is very much playable with a control pad on console (and is one of my favourite games on the system), so is Torchlight, so what makes you seriously think Diablo 3 will be much different from either of those to play? I actually find Sacred 2 a much better game to play with a control pad than with a keyboard and mouse. Movement control is very much better with an analog stick in these types of games, while using your right stick to aim. It's extremely easy. Compared to the point and click schemes I feel more in control of my character.

I'm confident it will play just fine. You may doubt it, but Blizzard obviously doesn't and neither do I.

have you actually ever played d3 and have you played a glass cannony type class that kites? you can't just lump together all games of the same type.

Actually I have. I play Demon Hunter (it's actually the only class I like in the game). I wish there was more viable ways to play the game with a control pad than using Pinnacle or Xpadder (and yes profiles exist, but they're horrible by comparison to a proper control scheme for a control pad). I'd find it so much more better. I dislike playing with keyboard and mouse with these types of games. It puts me off playing them.

And yes I can. You think there aren't glass cannon builds in Sacred 2 aswell? Have you played it on console at the higher difficuly levels with a High Elf? Experienced the way targeted spells work, etc? It works very well. One of the better thought out control systems for the genre.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think I have any game like Diablo that supports the use of a controller on pc (AFAIK) so I can't actually try it, but when I tried playing D3 with a different, lower DPI mouse it was practically unplayable. Since analog sticks are even slower than that, I would probably last a whole two minutes before rage quitting.
I do use a controller from time to time, but only for platformers/third person hack and slash. Every time I have to pan around the camera in a 3d environment using the analog stick, the slowness of it all bothers me.

i'm guessing you play low mp levels or have crazy gear if you can play a glass cannon dh effectively with gamepad. targeted spells would be so much less precise and quick. i play a dh and there is no way i could survive with a controller. 2 or 3 hits without gloom up and i'm toast. my play style is heavily based around kiting with vault, and there's no way i could aim that accurately and quickly with a controller. in fact, i've thought about buying a higher dps mouse (mine is currently 2000) because mine feels sluggish in some situations

it's like trying to argue that gamepad is better for shooters
