FX series - 2133 Ram

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm building my new rig on Monday, and have been researching a lot into the FX series and ram incompatibilities. From what I have gathered, the FX series has a lot of stability issues with 2133MHz Ram.

Just wondering if anyone has some insight into this, if it's only certain Ram, and if it would be a safer bet to go with 1866.

Cheers

Build for Reference:

-Asus Crosshair V-Formula Z
-FX (8120 or 8350)
-(Ram)
-Gigabyte HD7970

I can't speak for others but I've had zero issues with 2133 ram. I'm using an FX 6300 though.

It's in a Crosshair V Formula with BIOS 1703.

I've the below ram doing around 2172 @ 9-11-10-29 1T 1.65v

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231468

It will also do 2444 10-12-12-33 2T 1.65v

Some benches do better with the former setting and others with the latter.

I havnt heard about any incompatablility problems, but honesty why would you need anything higher than 1866mhz RAM anyway? If it were me I would just get 1866 and not keep myself up at night worrying about it.

Have any of you needed to raise the C.P.U.-N.B./uncore voltage past its default?

You may want to give the Samsung 30 nm ram a shot. I was in the same boat as you when shopping for my upgrade, and this stuff really is as magical as everyone makes it out to be. Don't be fooled by the 1600 mhz statement on the box or by the lack of heat sinks on the ram itself. Because it's manufactured on a smaller process, it can be overclocked to pretty astronomical heights.

With no change in voltage I got mine to 1866mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings. Considering default voltage is a meager 1.3 volts that blows me away. Obviously I intend to go much higher, but one thing is very clear to me now, with more voltage the skies the limit with this stuff.

But don't take my word for it, if you need more convincing then find the " Samsung Miracle Memory thread," and read about people getting this stuff well above 2133 mhz.

Best part? It's only $59.99 for 8 gigs at Microcenter.
