New XSPC Razor 7970 (New Style) Build Quality Problems

I just got this block yesterday. It shipped in a well packaged box and was even sealed in plastic but after taking off the plastic wrap and getting a close look at it I was not happy to find all types of little little circles imprinted on the copper block and scratch marks and frayed edges on the ram heat sinks.

Either all of these XSPC blocks are junk or I got a lemon. I haven't seen any photos of this new block so if you have this block please share your experience with the over all build quality.

Also what is up with only 3 out of 4 set screws spacers directly around the gpu? doh.gif Looks like only 3 of the screws will be used instead of 4. I have never seen this on any block before....


I am not sure if the VRM block material is plastic or aluminum. It doesn't feel cold at all like regular cold aluminum feels and it feels more like plastic. Somebody know for certain what the VRM blocks are made of? I have contacted XSPC about this and I hope they respond.



Another problem with the card is that it shipped with the old version block manual.













Not happy with this block right now.

i have their 680 and when i needed help filling out a support ticket did nothing, if they don't respond to that i suggest getting at them on their facebook, thats what i had too do.

Thanks for the tip.

Yesterday I spoke to Performance PCS http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php about this problem and they told me to send them photos and they would have an answer for me today.


Today I get an email from Performance PCS and they are telling me that XSPC is celebrating the Chinese New Year and are not certain when they will be able to offer some customer support.


I think Performance PCS should pick up the slack and fix the problem. I don't like this blaming the manufacturer game when I (the customer) get hosed. I don't want to wait till the end of this Chinese New Year holiday season. I want to fix my problem now.

XSPC responded on their facebook page that they are back from Chinese New Years holiday so I feel like Performance PCS is not being responsible about my problem.

They are telling me that I have to be patient and wait on XSPC to respond to them. No RMA or customer service until XSPC steps in and looks at photos and makes a decision. Looks like PPCS is going to make it through this week squeaky clean on this problem and I will have to wait till Monday to waste my time to try to get some customer service.


PPCS is being very irresponsible about this problem. I feel that they should step up and take care of me (the customer) and then deal with XSPC on their own terms.

Cheap as in low quality or cheap as in inexpensive?


I really don't know how well this new design XSPC RAZER HD7970 will perform as I haven't seen any reviews of it.

Regarding the surface, can you feel the mill marks? Seeing them is not whats important.


The 680 block I have has perfect milling, no marks, nothing noticeable with the fingernail. Comparatively, your block looks gorgeous compared to an ek block rofl. Now there is some crap milling left over. That said, ek has the best fitment and vrm designs of all the major players imo.
