8800 GTX Sli or Upgrade to Newer Card for 1280x1024 - Page 6

Fishie is right....According to new test reveiws, a 600W PSU is till more than sufficient to run the MOST hardcore gamers rig.

My X1900XT draws 13A overclocked. Lets say each GPU draws 12A, and the CPU draw 12A, thats 36A which is 432 watts. Thats without the rest of the build. Plus you want headroom on a new PSU. I still think 55-60A is the way to go it you want two GTX's and a power hungry CPU.
*Remember, Ati cards draw a lot more power than Nvidia cards do ATM. Even the X1800's draw more power than my 7900gt @ 680mhz! See the reveiws in the News section, or go to vrzone.com.

Agreed :

However I wouldnt get SLI dx 10 with that montiro as said..I would perhaps get a single 8800GTX

Using the Extreme PSU calculator, if I ran an AM2 Opteron build with dual x1950PROs and all the same Hardware I have now, It would only draw 380W of power. It's the Amps that matter.

You'll be surprised how little power about any rig needs.

A single 8800GTX draws more during idle but less during load than a single X1900XTX

The best thing to do if you're wanting to future proof a PSU is get one that has high effiency, and a lot of power on the 12v rails. (you don't need like 72a, but 40a should get you by fine)

I don't know if anyone has said this, but if you went the route to get the 700W PSU and one 880GTX, when you upgrade to a newer better card, You may need to get a better PSU to handle that. lol
