Noob that spend $2,000 on a build - Page 3

If you are video editing, I would have opted for the 3930k with an Asrock x79 extreme6 or similar board that supports 64gb of ram so you can setup Ramdisk which would help you with your video editing. I would also exchange that h100i for something like a Raystorm 750 Rs360 kit.

Psu is overkill unless you're going to quad sli in the future, i would exchange that for a quality 500w psu. You can find a 7950 for around $260 and you can almost buy two of them for the price of one of those 4gb 680's, when overclocked it will perform on par with a gtx 680 and 3gb of Vram is plenty unless you are doing super high resolution Eyefinity setup. What case are you planning on putting this in?

Exchange the ram for some 8gb stick so that you can put 64gb of ram and i don't see a problem with the intel SSD since they are one of the best on the market. If it was up to me i would have maybe went with 2 OCZ Vectors 256gb in Raid 0 and a 2tb WDB as my storage.

@Chaython, I would start editing your posts instead of double and triple posting - plus... why don't you try to be a little more constructive and less degrading, the OP was very honest in that he is a "noob" and came here seeking help only after purchasing parts.

First lesson that I believe the OP has learned thanks for everyones kind and no-so-kind comments is that they could've gotten a little more for their dollar; however, to the OPs point they wanted some "looks" and were willing to pay for it - which is everyones right to do.

The above being said, OP, that is a very strong build ... definitely would last quite some time for your needs without much of a need for upgrading (as you mentioned SLI in the future).

In order to better give you some pointers as to the direction of your build in the current and future tense what screen resolution are you gaming at? 1080P, etc?

Also, if you could return your 680 for a gtx 670 or gtx 680 "FTW" edition you'd be able to stretch your performance/dollar vs the 4GB card - UNLESS - you're going to be gaming @ 1440p or using three screens.

As has been noted the PSU is definitely overkill right now but it's a strong PSU overall and that series has pretty good reviews from what I can find.

Given that you might go SLI or even tri-SLI in the future have you given much thought about watercooling? If you're looking to do that you may want to get the swiftech h220 system as it's easily expandable and has been show to power gpu blocks no problem as it's pump is extremely strong.

You're also going to want to look at getting a proper case, what are your needs in that area? Have you looked at cases a lot yet?

Comparing a HDD's burst speeds against first generations SSDs is hardly fair.

However, I feel the PSU, cooler, and RAM to all be a little 'off'.

Recommendations to OP:
-Non-Dominator RAM of similar specs
-Heatsink or closed loop. Unless space is of a concern AIO loops really aren't worth the cost/trouble. $20-30 dollars less for an aluminum cinderblock with minimally better performance most the time time is worth it if you are a function over form kind of guy.
The 3tb segate hdd when under 500gb full was getting a stead 240mb/s read/write in crystal mark
And after every 500 I tested seemed to be a lot slower though at over half full I average 140mb/s read write

Much needed directions please.....

Case: NZXT Phantom 630

Time to get flamed for getting something from Corsair.
Keyboard: Corsair K90
Mouse: Corsair K60
Sound: Old Pioneer stereo amp.

Well I have 3 24" monitors ready but not sure what resolution yet. Maybe 1400 or something like that. Haven't really checked the setup yet. But I'd like to game at the highest rez. Unless gaming on a lower rez has it's advantages.

Yes, looked at the water cooling options and saw some youtube video's just to get the logistics of it. But didn't think I'd just jump in WC in just yet.

For the GPU, If I don't like it or if it's not performing. There's the Step Up program and upgrade to the Titan from EVGA.

Mobo: Asus Maximus V Extreme $360
CPU: Intel 3770K $300
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i $109
GPU: EVGA GTX 680 4gb w/back plate $529
DRAM: Corsair Dominator 1600 mhz $100
Drive: Intel SSD 240gb $240
PSU: Corsair AX1200i $329

you should really go with a IPS panel! Way better colours then normal TN's. Maybe think about investing in a large 1440p screen? (27inch)

If you're going with a 4GB GTX 680, you have to do yourself justice and pick up a 2560x1440 resolution monitor. Don't pick up a ****ty 1080P TN monitor.
