So I need to make a decision AMD or Intel.

So I'm starting to work out the parts necessary for my new build and as of now I'm stuck with the usual problem, AMD or Intel.

I'm looking at two combinations.

Intel CPU:
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116492

Asus Intel Motherboard:
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131800

and

AMD CPU:
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284

Asus AMD Motherboard:
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876

The price is really the thing drawing me toward AMD, but the power of those six cores seems awesome. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Some Gaming, a bit of memory intensive programming, a lot of multitasking with multiple monitors. Some general movie compression/conversion, but nothing on a professional level.

I'd go with the FX 8350/8320, the 3930K would be a waste of money in your situation. Have you considered the i5 3570K or i7 3770K at all?

What they said Or the 3820?

The i7 3770k was actually the first CPU I considered:
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501

with possiby this motherboard or something better. Most motherboards have UEFI bios nowadays right?
Code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131819

The 3820 seems nice as well, would allow me to get a Z79 board.

Do you need an X79 board for any reason? The 3770K is a better CPU than the 3820. If I were you I would pick up a 3770K and a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H motherboard.

Not particularly, I'm just looking to build another system that will last me a good 4-5 years like my current build has.
