i7 930/Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev.1 Overclock Help

hey everyone

new to this website and unexperienced with overclocking

what I would like to do is to overclock my processor to either 3.2/3.4 without any issues at all. I do have an aftermarket cooler and it currently runs quite cold

I tried overclocking it myself by turning up the multiplier (133) to (145) which gave me 3.19ghz but it doesn't update under system specs. It still registers 2.8ghz. Before I break something and brick my motherboard, would anyone explain to me the proper values and settings to overclock my processor to either 3.2 or 3.4ghz.

Thanks

I should of also mentioned I have Corsair XM3 1600 ram and it has always been running at 1066, if there is a way I can overclock my processor and correct my ram at the same time, that would be great

If "doesn't update in system specs" refers to Control Panel> system, then no it won't. Use CPU-Z to check your core speed.

You do overclock Nehlams by increasing the BCLK, though you will need more VCORE and QPI voltage the higher you go to keep stable. Your chip is nearly guaranteed to get at least 4.0 ghz, with proper cooling, mobo, PSU.

could you give me the values to get to lets say 3.4?

I have the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R rev1
750w Corsair PSU
i7 930
8GB Crucial XM3 (2GBx4)

I bought Kingston HyperX 8gbx2 but found out it won't work in my mobo :/

Mine did 3.6 @ 1.18 V VCORE, everything else was default. You may have to adjust your memory speed because when you increase your BCLK it will increase your other values.

The rule of thumb is to only overclock 1 thing at a time till you verify it is stable; ie: underclock your ram until you know your CPU is stable at new settings.

I was able to get my i7 930 to do 3.8 @ ~1.22v.

I suggest you read through this guide before going any further.
