Looking for a lappy: Light gaming (MOBA style games) and a little bit of school work

What is your maximum budget?
Trying to be under $1400

What country are you in?
US

What will be the uses of this laptop?
MOBA style games (League of Legends/Dota 2) and probably the New Sim City. I have two classes come spring quarter and would like to take some notes as well. but that can be done on any laptop

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
no preference

What screen size do you require?
15.6 or smaller works

What screen resolution do you require?
I have my tower for my high def gaming, so no preference as long as something like LoL will look clear really thumb.gif

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
Trying to go new, but if it's a guarenteed great deal, might pull the trigger for a refurb/recert

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
4-5 hours would be great.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
League of Legends, full settings if possible. Dota 2 Medium settings are probably fine.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
I'd prefer it to come with win 7 or 8

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
not really

How much hard drive space do you need?
I would LOVE to have an SSD 128Gb + as long as it's in the price range. I have my samsung spinpoints and such for data holding, just need this baby for on the road stuff.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Blue ray would be great, but definitely not needed, especially if I'm not really gonna be at 1080

Is there anything else we need to know?
I feel like that's all... I'll answer any and all questions to help the process. Thanks for your time, everyone!

Do you want it to be very lightweight

IE less than 5lbs? Because there is a performance consequence.

I'm really liking my Dell XPS 12. Very high quality premium convertible (ultraBook/Tablet) $1400. Fit and finish is great comes with Win 8, 8GB memory, i7 CPU, and 128GB SSD. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dncwi25s&model_id=xps-12-l221x&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

HD4000 wouldn't be enough to comfortably play Dota 2 at 1080p.

Nah, weight is not an issue.

Agreed with that, but I don't really need 1080 if there's a comfortable inbetween res that works well. thumb.gif

The A10-4600m is a great budget mobile gaming chip. Most laptops with the A10 are somewhere between $600 to $800, higher if they CFed it with a dedicated GPU.

EDIT: An Intel with a dedicated GPU would be superior to a CF setup though.

Not at the same price point. For that price point the best you can do is a 650m.

+ Any SSD is what I would buy.

However that would be kind of a hassle to most people.

650M SLI...no SSD though. But it's under your budget so you could buy one. Battery life is also low because Nvidia Optimus sucks.

That's looking really promising actually... the more I research into the 650M... that in SLI for a 15 inch 1080 should be kinda dope... thumb.gif +rep!

The only thing I see as a potential problem would be installing Win 8 on a SSD after I take out the HDD... I assume the disc it comes with probably isn't a full install Win8 disc tongue.gif
