Replaced a couple of hardware pieces on my kids' gaming rig and can't get win7 64 ultimate to complete installation--HELP!!

Hello, windows 7 guru's I have a good one for ya. I recently dusted off my kids' old gaming rig that had a couple things missing that I had used on their new build and has been sitting for a month. Here's the component list before I continue:

Zalman Z11plus case
Asus m4a87td-evo mobo
Corsair Dominator ram ddr3-1600 2 x 2gb
Athlon II X3 445 triple core
Zalman "tall style" cpu cooler 92mm fan - direct contact heatpipe type -
Powercolor 6570 1gb 128 bit ddr5 vid card with an aerocool aftermarket cooler that enabled 880mhz core speed
West Digi black sata 2 3.0gbps 750 gig hard drive
Sony IDE dvd burner
TP LINK N600 Wireless network card -- dual antenna type --
Thermaltake power supply 26a 12v rail 500w total continuous power

All settings are default in BIOS except the boot sequence

The asus ide cable and provided sata cable that came with mobo, and the usb3 top ports are connected via pass thru to the back of mobo.

That's all I can think of hardware-wise. The power supply, video card, cpu cooler, motherboard, and ide drive were already in the case as well as the 5 cooling fans. I just added the hard drive which was my storage drive bought new 6 mos ago. The cpu was swapped for a dual core out of a running system that has a MSI cheap but new 880 micro board. The rig ran great before it sat. It had a dual core athlon II X2 215 cpu and wd v'raptor 80 gig h.drive.

When I first tried installing 7 ultimate, it kept asking me for a driver before even getting to the partitioning phase of installation. I had to change a cpl settings (can't remember exactly which but I think core unlocker was one thing disabled) I then finally got to partitioning and since I had already formatted it clean-wiped on my rig, it was unallocated space. Did the format and it created the extra part for windows and began installing. Twice in a row, it failed with an error saying it couldn't either start a service or a file was missing. I then changed where the keyboard was plugged in to a different usb port and it got all the way to "completing installation" with the three dots moving right to left..(where it has the 4 things checkmarked above it and it's the last step) and just sat there for an hour. Tried a second time with the wireless pci-e x1 card taken out. Same thing. Refrained from taking a hammer to it, and wrote this post instead. Thanks for any help...!

It's asking for an AHCI driver (assuming you have AHCI set in the BIOS).

I thought that the first time, but I believe it had something to do with the core unlocker and the triple core cpu's 4th core bn bad. After disabling the unlocker-it got to the installation/partition page. Then went through it all the way to the final check mark "completing installation" and then nothing. just sat there.

She's running great! It was somehow needing all the USB ports emptied for it to install correctly, don't know why...

I have seen that before. sometimes windows and certain motherboards won't boot if you have anything in usb ports in the back except keyboard mouse and a printer, so maybe your front usb ports connected to the motherboards usb ports in the back most likely caused it.

Yeah, This Z11 Plus case only came with pass-thru cables, so yeah that didn't help lol.

Thats a real valuable link to me bud! It's cool that It's doable to swap out drives to another rig, ESPECIALLY since my son's have like 400 gig in games each! Of course, the youngest son has less than my 13 yr old, and gradually more and more inbetween...lol. Thanks!
