Understanding Overclocking with i5 3570k with a giga Z77X-UD5H

To start off im new to ocing with Ivy my last rig was a Q9550@4.2ghz with a EP45-UD3P.

At first i went here to read up and understand ocing with my new 3570K and UD5H and after much testing i got to 4.5ghz with what i think is high voltage...1.344v in CPU-Z everything on auto and no matter what i did i could not make it stable at 4.6ghz (havent tried high high voltage like over 1.4 volts....

Anyway after sum posts on here OCN i was suggested to go on youtube and found some oc guides.... now the first 2 vids mentioned 3 settings that i have not yet seen in here (ocn) and i want to ask you guys about it.........

1) Adjusting the CPU clock ratio vs. TURBO core

2) Leaving CPU Vcore on auto vs. set voltage

3) Setting Turbo power Limit and Core current Limit to 250 each (this one im worried about as for i know nothing about it)

with the "YOUTUBE" guide i am Priming 95ing 4.6ghz with Vcore set to AUTO and i used turbo core to 4.6ghz and also set the turbo power limit and core current limit to 250....

-With Prime 95 im hitting max temp spike of 96-105 degrees avg. about 75-85 degrees and on auto voltage in CPU-Z showing avg. about 1.416v

Are these settings safe??????? any other suggestions??????

My guess is to hit 1.416v only for gaming cant b that bad considering the rest of the time it will clock down a whole lot while using for regular use.......i dont like using that voltage, i dont really know why maybe cause of the old 775 socket days lol....

i have read that and with that i couldnt go past 4.5ghz but maybe i diddnt read into enough will try again....funny cause with these new settings from utube i got to 4.6ghz easy but like i said not sure if they are safe settings though???? anyone else???

your voltage 's when you overclock should either be manual or use offset. Setting it on Auto, the board would pump more voltage into the processor than required and that is what being seen with your temps. I suggest you read the guide as that will surely help you get better o/c with better temps

please correct me if im wrong but if left on auto i will get the benefits of it setting itself down when the voltage is not needed right????? since i found out about this i like the fact that it can increase voltage if needed then decrease when not......wouldnt that extend the life of your CPU????? rather than putting a constant voltage like say 1.35v

so its also safe to say the 1.416v in cpu-z can be lowered for sure....how can i lower it with still keeping it able to increase or decrease voltage like in auto setting?

well too much voltage will mean more heat which then would degrade the cpu. and too little will cause instabilities. so having a fixed voltage is the better choice.

for it to bring down the speed and corresponding voltage, you must set the C-States to auto. If you set voltage to auto, the board would pump slightly higher voltage (as a fail safe) than required

ok i will play with voltage settings do any of you guys know anything about the Turbo power Limit and Core current Limit settings to 250 is that safe????

so the lowest i can get stable is 4.5ghz not 4.6ghz @ 1.332v FIXED voltage in CPU-Z is that safe???? with voltage set to auto i could get to 4.6ghz with 1.416v in CPU-Z but only at load when not in load i think it was running at about 1.2 volts...

And im still wondering about the Turbo power Limit and Core current Limit settings to 250???

Yeah. Set turbo power limit to 250 or leave on auto.
The voltage is okay. I would get core temp and Intel test burn. To see what the temps would reach on full load. And that will also be a quickway to test for instability. For intel test burn run at maximum option
