2700k gives me slower wprime scores than average!

Thread Starter
I have a i7 2700k cpu and Ive been running wprime alot and do not even come close to the average times that most users get with my cpu on the website.

On the 32m with HT disabled I usually get around 9sec and lately an improvement to 8.440 secs. Most users average 5-6secs on this test with a 2600/2700k so i was curious to know why I cant seem to get below 8.4secs??? I will also add that alot of these users times are on the default clock. Mostly non-overclocked CPUs hitting these times.

I ran the test(32m) with the default BIOS settings AND with a slight OC(4.2) and get the same times(8.4-9.1secs) which i expected but don't come close to the average users scores!

In the big picture, not all CPUs are alike and there will be fluctuations but i was wondering if anyone knows of any other factors that could cause such slow scores. I ran the test with HT enabled and achieved 7.8secs. Still not 5 or 6secs! My system specs are as follows:

OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM
CPU: I7 2700K @4.2
MOBO: SABERTOOTH Z77
RAM: CORSAIR VENGEANCE 1600GB @1866MHZ 9-10-9-27 1.5V
GPU: EVGA NVIDIA GTX 680 2GB
PSU: CORSAIR AX1200
COOLER: CORSAIR H100
DISKS: 1X AGILITY 3 240GB SSD(OS) 1X AGILITY 3 480GB SSD(FSX) 1X WD 7200RPM 1TB BLACK HDD(FILES)

I just ran it on my 2600k @4.2 32M and got 6.758s.. what version are you on? Do you have your thread count set to 8?

hi thanks for replying. I have the thread count set to 4 because I have hyperthreading disabled. I will enable HT once more and set thread count to 8 and let you know what i get.

btw the wprime version is 2.09

I just enabled HT and got 6.4secs on 1 test and 6.3secs on another. Seems to be a second quicker than last time I ran it with HT. What factors could cause a slower/faster time?

OS is a big one, and background tasks also slow it down. I am Windows 8 with a ton of stuff running which is why my score is low, it could be the same issue with you. Close everything and try again.

Quick and dirty @ 4.8GHz... I only enabled high performance in power options; didn't shut down any running services. Looks like I'm in the same general ballpark as you, taking the higher clock speed into account.

Edit: I had HT enabled for this test.
Edit: for 4 threads I'm averaging about 8.3 seconds.

Edit: Switched Vcore from offset to manual, bumped CPU up to 5.0GHz, 8 threads, HT.

With wprime OS can make a difference, win XP is generally a bit faster than win 7. Memory really doesn't make much difference in wprime, it's almost all cores & clockspeed (don't forget to set the thread count to the # of threads the cpu has)..
Also, version 1.55 is the one to use, it's the only version that is accepted for any competitions or hwbot submissions. Being the most used it is the easier one to compare as well.

I get an "Unexpected error; quitting" popup when I attempt to run v1.55 -- should this run standalone, or is it expecting to see something else previously installed?
