Questions about PSU compatability with MOBO

Thread Starter
I am looking for some help. I have the following PSU - Antec Basiq BP430 430W. I was just looking at the specs again and noticed it looks like it only has a 4 pin connector for the CPU. Just want to double check. This means that it is only compatible with MOBOs with 4 pins for the CPU not MOBOs with 8 pins for the CPU right? This is something I didn't think about when getting a PSU. Thanks.

The 4pin ATX (CPU 4pin) connector is half of an EPS connector (CPU 8pin), depending on the CPU in question, it can be more than sufficient (for most systems really).
What's the system in question, what CPU will you be using?

I am still not sure what MOBO I want to get. I am shopping around and this thought struck me. The CPU is the IVY Bridge 3570K.

I'd recommend the CX430 over a Basiq since it's a better quality unit

~I remember reading up on the Basiq on Hardwaresecrets and the CX430 on both hardwaresecrets and jonnyguru

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026&Tpk=cx430

it hits $20AR right now no rebate.

The 3570K doesn't require an 8pin EPS connector, you'll be just fine with your current PSU, independent of the MoBo you choose.

There are no disadvantages to having only a 4 pin connector? Does it mean the CPU gets less power? Does it mean the CPU won't perform at its max?

Nope

I have the sniper m3 and it has a 4pin. in theory 8pin is more desierable, likely to see limits on LN2 overclocking when you draw HIGH HIGH power

sin makes a comment on the quality of the 4 pin power connect on the g1 sniper m3
