Interesting idea for GTX TITAN build, Input appreciated.

Hi there, I really need some suggestions for a build I have been dreaming up. At this point I have a concept and few parts that I have already bought. I will be building this system starting April 1st.

Please feel free to shoot holes in my plans and provide some suggestions, this will be the first build that I really want to flesh out all the ideas before I start. Any input would be appreciated!

So here is the concept:

I want to build a fast, quiet and stable gaming system that will double as my recording studio computer (I run a small project studio out of my apartment). This rig needs to be as quiet as possible when I am recording (so while idle needs to be near silent), but I have no problem with the fans getting a little louder when I game.

I use 3 1080p monitors at the moment but I plan to downsize to a single ultrawide 21:9 or 2560 x 1440 monitor later this year.

What has been decided:

So far I have bought a Fractal Define R4 Case, a Corsair 860i power supply, a dual bay hard drive mount (stock drive cages are removed) and I have built a nice 1" shroud/cowl for the top of the case that exhausts at the rear so I can put a 240 rad in the top and still keep outside noise to a minimum. I will be going with an intel 3770k off of a MSI Mpower Z77, 16 gigs ram, and a GTX Titan.

What I want to do with the cooling:

I pretty much have decided that watercooling is the best way I can achieve an extremely quiet and cool system. I plan on buying a Swiftech H220 and strapping it to the roof of the R4. It will be expanded to cool a GTX Titan using an EK waterblock and further cooled by a Alphacool Nexxxos UT60 280mm Radiator in push/pull tucked up in the front of the case (I know it fits, but just barely).

This is my idea:

The GTX Titan has a cool new feature that allows the system to be overclocked by the temperature of the card. What I think is possible is to have the Swiftechs H220s fans to be controlled off of the fan header on the Titan. I assume that the header is a standard 4 pin pwm? Could I then use the H220 provided fan splitter to run the fans off the card and set up profiles within GPU Boost 2?

Also need some ideas for the front fans. I think I have exhausted my search for the perfect 140mm fans for push/pull. Most of the 140mm PWM fans either suck, are discontinued, don't fit my black/white theme, or are not in a standard frame. So I may just use 3 pin Swiftech Helix's or 3 pin Thermalright X-Silent's and just run them off the cases stock 3 position fan controller. There isnt anything anyone could suggest there that would work perfectly eh?

Anyways, any suggestions would really help me, I want to make an amazing build. I plan on doing a log once I have finished planning this beast out.

Thanks! smile.gif

Sounds very interesting.

If I were you though, I'd sell the 1080p monitors and get 2 1440p monitors. thumb.gif Take advice from a fellow video editor that having the editing/project details on one display and the video fullscreened on the other makes things much easier.

Good luck with the build though! thumb.gif I'll watch the thread for more info. smile.gif

Yeah, I know its nice when you have extra real-estate to work on. I think a 21:9 resolution monitor would be best for me though. Extra FOV when I'm gaming and more horizontal (without scrolling or annoying bezel) area for when I'm using pro tools while recording/mixing. I will likely wait until the next gen ultrawides come out though, currently all that is offered is 2560x1080, but for me 1080p isnt enough. I think Ill wait for 2800x1200.

Anyone know if this is the right forum area to post this topic in? Is there a better spot?

I very much doubt that you can use a GPU fan connection as you intend.

IMHO.

Have you looked at an Aquaero unit?

The fan idea is great, but I fear u might pull extra tdp for the fans which might affect oc.

Just my 2 cents.

Also isnt haswell close?

I will definitely look into that controller, especially since it looks like there is a version that comes without the display and can be controlled via software as I don't have any room in the front drive bay for a unit there because of my drive bay HDD cage. Thanks for that suggestion, it might be the answer I was looking for.

This could be a concern yes, but there might not be an issue as the H220's fan hub has a molex power cable:

And yeah, Haswell is close but its scheduled for release at the end of june/july. And even though its got a whole lot of new features and such, so far I think the consensus is that it will likely only have a 10% increase in performance over current gen. Id rather go for tried and tested over 10% more performance and early price gouges and an additional 3 month wait. smile.gif
