Possible malware problem with external hard drive

Thread Starter
So I tried accessing my 500gb WD external hard drive when all I found inside was a shortcut to the drive itself. I did a scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it detected something called Gamarue.O. Now the files inside my drive won't show up, even though they're still in in according to the explorer. Any advice on how to the recover files? Thanks in advance.

Just going to put it out there, MSE is by far the worst AV program to date.
Download Comodo which is free and much much better.

I've actually never experienced anything bad with MSE. This drive came back from my sister, and she's pretty ignorant when it comes to things like responsible browsing and downloading.

I never did either but it could be better.
I don't use any such programs as my anti-virus security suit
as everything in it.

So I've scanned the drive with Malwarebytes and found those harmful files, but my drive's contents are still hidden, and the Show Hidden Files box is already ticked. I can still find the files via search bar though. Anyone know how to fix this?

Are you looking to recover some of the files, or delete them?

If you're looking to delete the files, you can use a program called Eraser, which will format the drive multiple times to make sure the files are ALL gone, no chance of recovery left.

You can choose what kind of delete to use, some of them include apparently what the Army and Air Force use to format their drives. thumb.gif

Edit: Oops, big fail to read all of OP is big fail.

Not sure on how to recover the files, but I'll leave my post up in case you decide to format the drive instead.
