5760x1200 Workstation Card that can Game a little?

Thread Starter
Title pretty much says it all. I need a card or cards to run 3x HP LP2475Ws for Solidworks and MasterCam, but would also like to be able to play BF3 and other games at reasonable framerates.

Originally I was looking at a Firepro v7900, now I'm looking at the Firepro w7000. I've been reading as much as I can over the past couple of months but when it comes to workstation cards the water gets pretty muddy as far as performance goes regarding games.

I'm not sure how gaming cards handle solid works, and I know that Mastercam is pretty much pure OpenGL performance oriented.

Can this be done for $1000, Can it be done at all? I can't find any articles that show real world gaming performance of workstation cards.

Any help would be appreciated.

7950 overclocked. You will get close to 60fps in bf3 at that res, I know from experience.

the major advantage with Firepro is drivers certified for prefessional applications. so I think they will provide the best performance for the apps you mention. anyway do your homework and make sure the drivers and performance is upto your expectations

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/firepro-w8000-w9000-benchmark,3265-10.html

solidworks seems to perform well on firepro w8000 and w9000

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6137/the-amd-firepro-w9000-w8000-review-part-1

W7000 uses the AMD pitcairn chip which powers the desktop HD 7870 card. W7000 runs at 950 mhz core clocks and draws less than 150w. uses a single 6 pin power connector.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195118

W8000 uses the AMD Tahiti chip which powers the desktop HD 7950 and HD 7970. W8000 runs at 900 mhz core clocks and has 190w TDP. W8000 has one change from the HD 7950. it has only 256 bit memory controller instead of the complete 384 bit memory controller. runs GDDR5 memory at 5.5 ghz bandwidth 176 Gb/s. the memory used is rated to run at 6 Ghz. so max bandwidth is 192 Gb/s. dual 6 pin power connector.

as far as gaming performance goes the workstation cards will perform just like their equivalent desktop cards. so W8000 will perform like HD 7950 OC (900 Mhz) and W7000 like a HD 7870 ( slightly slower because HD 7870 runs at 1000 mhz while W7000 runs at 950 Mhz)

You could look into a 7970 or 7990. They are powerful enough for resolutions like that, and a MSI 7970 Lightning will have the connectors you need to power tons of displays off that single GPU. I've used it for things like Blender and Maya and its treated me well.

FirePros are great cards but price for performance is way off for gaming, since your doing animation something like the lightning could meet in the center of a gaming and station card.
