Graphic card is bending in my case?

Thread Starter
hello,

is Asus 670 suppose to be supported anything when installed? My computer have be crashing a lot lately and when I opened the case, the 670 seem to be bending the MB. The 670 seem to be too heavy on it's own.

I remember I got a video card support when I bought the case, am I suppose to use it?

Yes you should. That would be causing a weak connection.

look I am looking at the HAF X user manual right now, it says "Please install either VGA bracket or side air duct"

Which one should I use?

Neither of those. The bracket is the one which goes in the case if you don't have any card installed and the air duct goes in the case side panel.

it should be something like this

hmm vga bracket sounds possibly right but cant tell from that description what it is used for. Did you throw away any extra pieces to your case? or left any extra pieces inside its box? Should be a small piece of metal or plastic that usually connects from a hdd cage or from the bottom base of the case that acts as a gpu kick stand brace.

My CM 690II Advanced came with that silly little VGA bracket. I don't use and I have a very large and heavy Sapphire TOXIC 6950 hanging off my mobo. No bending or warping at all. Are you sure you got the mobo supports screwed in and down firmly? how about the thumb screw for the GPU bracket? is it/are they firm?

I also have a massive Silver Arrow CPU cooler with 2 San ace 1011's (120x38mm) fan's with no bending or warping.

I screwed up my 680 lightning by not supporting it. I've never had to support a card before, not even my dual-pcb 295, but this is a LONG card, I should have known better.

It just wouldn't power up on boot, or sometimes it would, and then half way through booting it would crash. Occasionally I'd get a partial power-on and just get a solid red screen.

That's when I opened the case and saw that the thing was bent over almost 2cm! I Immediately grabbed a chopstick and cut it to the right length to use as a support column and stuck it between the GPU and PSU. Not the most elegant solution, but it's what I had on hand.

I need still need to send it in for repair/replacement as it is under warranty and users shouldn't have to make aftermarket modifications to their cards just to keep them from killing themselves under their own weight, it still occasionally red screens and I have to reboot the system, but for the most part it's fixed the issue.

Obviously there is a lose connection somewhere due to all the bending that happened. Don't be stupid like me, support the card BEFORE it bends!
