BF3 suffered from the same problem until a patch fixed it.

The fx8350, even in a 8core optimized game (Cry3), is still being beat by the 3770k with 4 cores.

Throw in lackluster performance in existing games and that 95% of releases in 2013 will be 4core optimized - I fail to see any upside?

There's not enough information to really claim anything properly, considering the HT loss it could simply be that Crytek limited it to 4 cores/threads max and forgot to tell it to use real cores instead of 2 cores/2 of the HT threads for all we know.
Lackluster performance? It's slightly slower, you're not talking about a Athlon64 here...The benefits are outside of gaming, you take a small loss for a small increase at the same price range vs an i5...There's zero reason to buy a i7 3770k (Spend a tiny bit extra and get a i7 3820, CPU performance will be close enough to the same and you have an upgrade path) and if you can afford Socket 2011 in a build there's no point in even considering AMD.

If the game is only using 4 threads max, then with HT off it would get 4 cores but with HT on it may be getting 2 cores/2 threads for all we know, like I said it needs to be looked into way more.
It's actually quite common for games to lose performance from HT, usually it's an absurdly tiny amount though.

One existing review which had the 8350 in front- pcgameshardware.de - has refuted their own benchmark post patch

Look's like a case of Lights out-game over- to me

I'm going to guess that just like most games, you're GPU limited most of the time and it makes nearly no difference in actual gameplay unless you're ultra sensitive to this kind of thing.

Regarding my own postings, I have no bias nor need to defend a specific manufacturer. If you were to ask me what GPU I recommend to friends/colleagues- its the 7970GHZ (unless Crossfire is being considered). CPU wise-intel 3570k.

I posted the updated benchmark with my own commentary to refute the incorrect conclusions that so many have drawn re AMD cpu's. How anyone can paint a doom and gloom scenario for Intel is baffling as the information available (even prior to the most recent benchmarks) clearly showed the opposite

And that's fine if there's no bias, but some people here are ridiculous lol, you'd almost think they worked for one of the yep companies and need to justify their purchase. We all have the same goal here. To fold, to game and to be huge nerds, shouldn't matter the hardware.

Until now we saw benchies from the Russian site

http://gamegpu.ru/action-/-fps-/-tps/crysis-3-test-gpu.html

the Czech

http://pctuning.tyden.cz/multimedia/hry-a-zabava/26363-crysis-3-test-naroku-nejkrasnejsi-hry-soucasnosti?start=1

and the German

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Crysis-3-PC-235317/Tests/Crysis-3-Test-CPU-Benchmark-1056578/

stating that AMD octocores outclass the i5s and slightly edge the i7s.

The Polish verdict

http://www.overclock.net/t/1364211/pclab-more-crysis-3-cpu-benchmarks

was that even i5s are better. Around that time even mr Tek chipped in and called it roughly a tie between FX-8350/i7-3770k

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIVGwj1_Qno

Techspot gave the edge to the i7.

http://www.techspot.com/review/642-crysis-3-performance/page6.html

Now the Germans found out that actually vegetation raises the load and that is what benefits the AMD and that there is something fishy with HT. I do not quite understand what happened between their initial test where the Hyperthreaded i7-3770k had a good 7-12% lead over the i5-3570k and their latest. That is a mystery. The AMD vs Intel issue is nothing of the like. When load gets high on all cores, AMD pulls ahead the i5 and competes with the i7- the grass issue on crysis 3. When the game or application is lightly threaded, i5 wins.

Sure. I'll try it in a little while and post my results.

Could be. I think we're going to need Haswell to comfortably push 3 Titans. I know Crysis games, well, the first and seemingly the third, are made for future hardware. So, yeah I think this is a perfect example. When my Titans are allowed to go up to 99% usage, they're over 100fps. But often there is a CPU bottleneck bringing them down to ~70% usage and only around 65-70fps.

Possibly. But you could try this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hcuYiqib9I

I know it gave me 5-10 more fps in Crysis 3 on an FX-8120 and a single 680, though it works MUCH better on sli systems, where theres a lot more GPU horsepower. You may have already heard of it, but let me know if it works smile.gif

I7-3770k dominating..with only 4 cores

Intel has something to worry about? Even in a multi threaded game its beating a AMD cpu with twice the cores.....

Wait, is this the only site with this so far? Rather annoying they way they did these 'benchmarks' as well. Not exactly professional in anyway especially since they just appear to be screenshots at a given time showing a certain FPS, not an average, unless my google translate is way off that is.

Regardless, interesting as it shows in some screens as 32 fps difference between ht on and off on the i7. Article notes that in multithreaded portions (apparently the grass is heavily threaded) the FX-8350 keeps up or surpasses. Odd coding so far, wish Crytek themselves would give some proper notes here and let us know
