[SFGate] More Details Leak About Microsoft's Next Operating System: Windows Blue (MSFT) - Page 6

Just curious, but how does Windows 8 perform in the Server environment?

I know Windows 7 added a lot of tools that are handy for an administrator natively, plus program compatibility with XP Mode made it a great selling point compared to Vista. So asking honestly objectively what does it offer for the server environment?

People who whine about metro clearly haven't spent the time to configure it.

You can place everything you'd typically find on the start bar, on the metro menu!

It works great.

I love gestures. It's a lot harder to accidentally shut your computer off while still easy to do

3 clicks

I love that control panel is irrelevant now

Well, with every Windows 8 thread, I grow less and less impressed with OCN. It really is disappointing that so many "enthusiasts" can be so hard headed over a single click. That's what it boils down to. A single click. Doesn't even have to be with your mouse. Could be a press of the space bar, or the enter button. Whining so much over a single click.

They really need to stop allowing Windows 8 threads to be replied to in this forum. All it is is the same people (myself included) posting the same tired crap over and over. Get rid of Metro this, get rid of Metro that. Metro is here to stay, gents. Suck it up or download classic shell....but wait, according to you guys, Metro isn't the only thing wrong with Windows 8, that's "just the tip of the iceberg"; but I digress.

Maybe the solution is to make a consolidated thread where everyone talks about Windows 8. Where the hard headed and irrational complain about one click, and those logical folk tell them how irrational their hate is.

Either way, it's disheartening to know that "enthusiasts" are whining over this. I need to leave this thread before I lose any more brain cells.

Can't let you do that starfox...
New laptops dont run windows 7 do they? No they run windows 8, technically forcing you to use windows 8 unless you stop down to linux, or are fortunate enough to have an extra install of 7, or have a MAK.
As for metro, I absolutely hate it. If it had the option to disable without third party tools, or at least had an option for a "Classic" start menu, it would be a much stronger OS.
The fact that there is a "slide to unlock" screen in the way of the actual password screen. It has plenty of issues that cause many users to get a rage induced boner talking about windows 8, but I found a great solution, swap the explorer.exe file with the windows seven variant.
Bam!

After doing this I love windows 8 much more.

It is a perfectly legitimate and valid reason, whether you are affected or not.

I would then reside to that fact that if his life is that stressful that an extra click in the OS would make him that much more stressed...the OS still isn't the problem. Dude, I use W8 everyday. if after a short period of time, clicking something like desktop or charms etc isn't second nature, then the problem really is with the user. Seriously, read all the posts. How childish is this? If my children were to complain about something so trivial, I would pay no heed to it, let alone an adult. All I hear from the W8hater crowd is literally whining. If MS got rid of Metro, I wouldnt care either way. Sure they can probably find a way to make it more user friendly like an overlay to the desktop or something. But to seriously have to post some whiny comment every time the topic comes up is just outright childish.

I have been quite curious as to what is being offered in Windows 8. But like the apple threads its either you love it or hate it and both are hardly objective usually, same applies here. All I know about Windows 8 has improved boot times, improved registry (I think), Metro Tile UI, and lack of Start button and a "Normal" Desktop which is provided in what i think is called classic shell right? My mother has Windows 8 on her laptop and while being neat, obviously it took a few days of trial and error for her to be proficient with the OS.

Windows 8 however has little to no compatibility with my school programs and some web sites I have heard that are needed for school do no function well in Windows 8. I cant blame Windows 8 though because I myself have had trials with some courses in windows 7 but at least I dont have to do some kind of shim to get it working, maybe it has to do with lack of compatibility with the newer IE? Doubt it has anything to do with the OS but I digress. Rarely are the heavily opinionated swayed by objective factual information.

Now the one thing I dont know anything about is what is offered to the server environment, or is this a completely client OS with Windows 7/2008 being the only thing being implemented in todays market? I just want to know if its something that is growing because then I will take the time to learn my way around Windows 8 for networking purposes
