It can run on any dx11 device.

I think hair is pretty unimportant, however I see it as a step forwards towards more open physics on the gpu,

Anyone else thinking about what this does for the future of gaming.. in a bad way? NVIDIA has PhysX, now AMD has Tressfx. They aren't exactly the same and you can't get both, so if you want the best graphics you have to buy 2 GPUs and swap them out.

In the future we could end up with certain games looking like trash on a certain company just because they don't have the rights to utilize the features. These features may just be the beginning, and we could end up with 100 features only NVIDIA can use and another 100 features only AMD can use. This is bad for everyone, it like Origin splitting the Steam community and not having all games being available on both.

NVIDIA/AMD need to cut this out and both companies need to work out a deal to share technologies.

this is based in Direct compute.. and was developed by crystal dynamics with the help from AMD.. so why do you say its "propietary" ?!?! DirectCompute its a DX11 feature, its not "brand" based like the PhysX from Nvidia where ONLY nvidia cards "can" run it...

stop spreading nonsense please and read the article next time thumb.gif

if tressfx is direct compute it could be open, i mean its nvidia fault they kicked computing out of their gaming cards smile.gif

I read the article before it was updated, I didn't re-read the new information. If it's true that it can be ran on both then that's great. That's how PhysX should be.

An old article about opencl

Nvidia has invested more in hardware acceleration and tools than AMD has by a landslide, so I can understand that they don't want to have one component of their API running on the competition's hardware.

Until AMD starts spending money on development like Nvidia, THEN they can complain and I would care. AMD seems to be relying on the fact that they support "open" standards too much as some sort of sign of their good will.
You can look at it both ways. Nvidia invests money in buying game developers to support them only. That's not how I want a company to behave, ergo I don't give them my money.

Does anyone still remember how good hair and "tit" physics/animation where back in the Xbox/PS2 era?

It seams that there has been no progress made for the last 10 years. Hell in most cases it seams that we gone backwards. Perhaps now we will finally get properly made long hair in games.
see 1:00

Just look at all that dynamic stuff in DOA3 . Not only is the hair dynamic but there is also cloth simulation and even the little chain on Bass's leg swings around. All that on a 733Mzh pentium 3 over a decade ago. Seriously with the power of modern machines why is it that it has taken this long to make a proper improvement on that?

This is amazing, especially when the game draws so much attention to her and her looks, hair has always been the worst part of graphics intensive games. AMD is really pushing the limit in a market not yet dominated, GOOD. JOB. thumb.gif
