The hair demo by NVidia, is DX11, way out of Aegia's lifetime and uses CUDA. You said it was by Aegia and NVidia bought the the tech 1-2 years ago (it was 4 years ago, entering the 5th year now). You were wrong.

You were not correcting me because I am not wrong here, you are. My commentary in this thread has been that of openness. You may contend this post if you want, but you would be 100% factually wrong.

500% correct. I was going to post the same thing correcting Stargate. NVs hair tech actually didn't come from Ageia OR Ageia people at all. It came from engineers who have always been a part of NVIDIA. Actually that's exactly why it's in their graphics SDK freely available to anyone. That's not to say they couldn't have used it in PhysX but that particular tech wasn't used.

That would've given them tons of advertising leverage (gimmicky or not) if every cross-platform triple A title featured TressFX and only ran on AMD cards. Of course considering how weak Kepler is in that regard the end result may be the same.

If you look at it from the other angle though, it could end up being more beneficial by not being proprietary. AMD can now add this new feature into the mix and when people decide to benchmark games at "max settings" AMD will have an advantage. Nvidia cant really do the same since it's either on or off.

Isn't it nice to see AMD getting their **** together?

Two years ago:

AMD: Look at all the cool **** we're doing with our hardware!
Intel/nVidia: Very nice. One problem, though.
AMD: What's that?
Intel/nVidia: Nobody running yo sheet to da max! Thanks for da paper, foo!

Now:

AMD: Look at me now, look at me now, I'm gettin' paper!
Intel/nVidia: ..... ****.

I dunno about "always" worked at Nvidia. I know most of the Aegia team are now on the NVidia payroll, they didn't just ditch them.

I think they tried that with havok but it wasn't that great. It actually dates back to oblivion, one of the first games to properly use havok physics...remember those swinging traps? Oooooooouuuu
