I'll play around with the settings more, 5 minute prime95 run passed on 4Ghz now. Thanks for all the help! It looks like it was the LLC setting all this time. I'll keep this this post updated with the progress i make, for science. smile.gif

You should definitely run a proper, 24 hour prime95 custom blend with max ram and error and roundoff checking and priority 10, on stock settings, to make sure none of your hardware is faulty.

You should be able to do at least, I don't know, 4.2-4.5ghz on around stock voltage, and be able to overclock to 4.4-5.1ghz on ambient cooling.

You should set LLC to the 2nd highest settings. if you have a digital multimeter you can figure out which LLC level is best but it's quite complicated, so just set it to the 2nd highest setting.

I'm pretty sure you have a faulty component somewhere in your system. Just for reference, of the last 3 computers I've built, on average, 2/8 of the components had to be RMA'd or were faulty in some way. I kinda feel the law of averages rules out that I'm just unlucky, as I build a lot of computers.

Which is why its so, so, so important to do a 24 hour prime95 test to ensure complete system stability and everything is in working order, before overclocking. Otherwise you'll be pulling your hair out when it makes no sense that, like 4.8ghz@1.2vcore seems more stable than 4.4ghz@1.4vcore, but both crash and aren't stable, and such and such. I spent a month figuring out that my cpu with 6 broken pins that I had replaced using cheap copper wire wasn't the problem, and it wasn't just the ram that was a problem, but it was specifically a certain motherboard slot, on a motherboard I had used for 3 years and overclocked another CPU just fine using the same RAM slots.

I'm pretty sure most faulty hardware is never even discovered to really be faulty. Also you should run a PSU test. OCCT PSU test is good, but basically CPU + GPU stress test at same time. I have a corsair PSU as well that had to be RMAd. And god the fans in them are annoying. They are quiet, but annoying. Makes a pulsing sound. If that bothers you what you can do is unscrew the fan grill, as that's what holds the fan in place, and sort of shift the fan more center. Hopefully that'll reduce the noice.

Thanks for the reply, Are you saying i should do a blend test for 24 hours with all stock settings to check hardware stability? Or do this test to see if my OC is any good?
EDIT: forgot to read, i'll look into that.

As I mentioned in the beginning, it's important to test everything beforehand (which is why I brought up RAM too). That way when you start overclocking and encounter an error, you will know it is more likely due to your overclock settings rather than a component not functioning properly (in itself or in your configuration). Since you are now passing Prime95 better, I think you are on the right track with finding good settings though, and your components might be fine. Once you find something you are happy with, make sure to test it for a long time, like a few-hour run of Prime95. You may then still find that one of your games will crash itself or your system, in which case you'll need to tweak more. It's a gradual process.

I'll start that 24 hour blend test in a bit. Leave it running over night and when i'm at work. Hope it's still good when i get home tomorrow. redface.gif

you don't really need 24h testing prime to make sure it's stable a 6h of full testing on prime is good, also run intel burn.
play games.

24h of prime is harsh i fined for your cpu, heat could go up to 70 80

I gotta disagree brother man. I thought I was 100% stable, till I did a 24 hour run. Right around the 12 around mark I would crash at 864k.

And OP. Ignore what some say they think you can OC with. Every chip is different. My first 3570k needed nearly 1.4v for 4500. Second 3570k is stable at 1.18v at 4500. If I had to guess, you just got a bad overclocking chip. I mean yes keep playing around with it, but don't spend pulling your hair out/going around in circles.

He's given you no numbers for his VCORE for max overclock yet, so you can't draw such conclusions.

i was reading here in OCN earlier that the asrock extreme 4 doesn't give you the correct vcore volts or something. Read in this thread and you will see the problems with it.

While that is true to some extent, it can still be compared against other ASRock Z77 motherboard results. I would refer to this thread for further assistance and comparisons:
