Hi and Help! lol!

Thread Starter
Hello everyone! i need help! i have tried everything i can think of now, and still cant do it!

My pc was store bought compaq presario sr 1539 , I have upgraded lots since then, my spec is as follows:

Msi amethyst-m mainboard, Socket 939. Chipset = ati radeon rs482
Amd athlon 64 3500+ running at 2188mhz (this the problem)
Akasa Evo 120 ultra quiet performance cooler
2x1GB ddr ram and 2x512mb ddr ram, pc 3200.
512mb ddr2 pci-e nvidia geforce 6600v+
Sound blaster audigy se

The problem is that i cant turn up my processor! the bios has no option too (phoenix), clockgen wont work now that i have the 2x1gb of ram! it just crashes when the ram goes over 200. I looked on my mobo for jumpers on the fsb or somethin, there are none! Everything is just locked down and i cant do it! Rather annoying! sweared lots at my pc so far! According to msi, my drivers are up to date.

I dont know why my bios has so few options, as all of my brothers pc's have lots and i turned all of there's up for em! I am not stupid when it comes to pc's and like to think i can hold my own! but i give up! help me please! lol!

Thanx in advance guys n girls!

If that is the stock board then the bios options are probably very limited....So you may not be able to oc that machine

With the store bought computer, the BIOS is most likely locked. The manufacturers don't want people to overclock and try to claim it on warranty. As for the RAM frequency, the RAM you have is probably value RAM, and will not go much above stock frequency, hence the crashes.

Exactly and the fact that they have 4 sticks of mixed ram running...

Good point. Mixing different capacities of sticks tends to mess with motherboards too.

I don't think there is a way to unlock the BIOS, and using software overclocking is not a very good idea. Your best bet would to just pick up a S939 board (they are cheap b/c they are being phased out) and an aftermarket cooler. Ah, see you have a cooler. Well if your 3500+ is a Venice core, those can be pushed quite a bit.

I hope you aren't running 4 sticks of RAM in Windows XP Home... If so, sell the 2x512MB....

Try running with one stick of RAM at a time. Try locking the RAM FSB, or lower the RAM FSB before increasing the CPU FSB. (IE, set RAM to 166 if you want the CPU at 233 or lower, ensures RAM stays at or below 200FSB.)
