This.
BF3 wasn't anything short of amazing(graphically). Lots of washed out textures.

BF3's community has been among the most annoying of any game I've played; they'll whine until DICE removes their dreaded enemy gunner's flares, break the below radar perk against IGLAs/Stingers, and nerf the hell out of a number of weapons. BF4 is going to have to be EXTREMELY impressive at first glance/open Alpha/Beta for me to consider it.

First person shooters of all kinds usually have pretty poor communities. It's a very aggressive and competitive genre with with a fan-base full of people that do not like losing. People will get killed by something a lot, they'll whine and say whatever it is is OP and if the developers listen, it will get nerfed. This is what every modern FPS I've played has been like minus a select few games such as Counter Strike (and even that has its fair share of whiners).

I think it's a little silly to dislike having variety in a game. The beauty of it is that you can pick and choose exactly what you want to play. You don't have to play rush or play on Metro. There's literally something for everyone and most of that variety is done fairly well. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I do have high hopes for BF4, but that's because I feel DICE is going to try to add what they couldn't or didn't get a chance to implement in BF3 in BF4. I'm not sure about mod tools, but stuff like VoIP and battle-recorder, possibly commander or something else that encourages squad-play and whatnot. BF3 has a nice formula, but it needs refinement and I think that's what BF4 is going to do. I might just be extremely optimistic, but I really do feel this will be twice the game BF3 is. I might also be building myself up for disappointment, but we'll see. tongue.gif

If you find BF3 community poor, you haven't tried League of Legends.

Oh boy, sounds like they might be focusing on consoles first this time around? I hope not, because our PC hardware has the ability to do so much more then what we are getting.

Only thing I want from BF4 is that netcode and hit detection is either much improved on client side, or completely moved to server side so everyone gets screwed over equally.

Oh and real time physics. Not pre rendered like it is now for the destruction.

metro 64 player on a server that doesn't allow nades or explosives is a lot of fun. IMO

What I would REALLY, ABSOLUTELY love is for DICE to break off from EA and develop Battlefield games to THEIR liking and with a publisher of THEIR choosing (or no publisher at all). I know. I'm not going to hold my breath. Battlefield 2 was great but I wouldn't say EA played a big part of it. EA didn't fully acquire DICE until late 2004; BF2 had already been in development for a long time by DICE.

At least in bf3 karkand u can no longer do that.

Yet there was more to Karkand than that, unlike with operation metro.

Meh. It didn't seem like EA had all that much influence on BF3 other than premium, lack of mod-tools, and being origin exclusive and possibly requiring a single player campaign. It's not like Activision and CoD where they would reuse a ton of assets and be limited on what they could do overall with the game. I know someone's going to point out their DLC, but honestly, it's not all that different from BF2's expansions and they do offer quite a bit of content.

firstly, great point.
secondly, i'd like to add Team Fortress 2 to that list of yours. (both by Valve rolleyes.gif )

Thirdly, if only BF3 was more open and allowed some or any mods then it might have got GOTY in my book. i don't really enjoy BF3 (never played previous ones so can't compare) but what I've seen through the years is that some games with mods rise with them to the top and overcome themselves. (best example is CS but there quite the few more)

I thought they turned down the destruction because BC2 had too much. You could knock down every tree and building which lead to no cover.

I personally loved BF3 and played the crap out of it. My only problem with it, is they over patched it.
