Looking to get some cooling upgrades

Thread Starter
Hello all,

My current rig is in my sig.

I have come to believe that the H50 for my setup is not the best way to go. Nor are reference coolers on my 580s.

I have compiled some ideas for upgrades and would like some input.

Since my cards are not overclocked and I do not see myself overclocking them in the future I have nixed the idea of water blocks.

Planned upgrades:

Case: Corsair 500r
CPU HSF: Cooler Master T812
GPU HSF: 2x Accelero Xtreme III
Therm Paste: Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra or AS5

Thoughts?

The above upgrades are suitable but if you're not experiencing any thermal issues with your cards at the moment and don't plan on OCing, is there much point in going for aftermarket cooling?

Before my custom loop, I was using a H100 which gave me good performance. Worth looking into.

I feel the cards are getting too hot during high end gameplay such as DX11 Metro on Ultra at 1920x1080. Ten minutes in and my room is definitely hotter than it was. I understand that the heat has to go somewhere, and venting into my room is pretty much the only option, but that hot that fast? I will try and get a heaven/valley bench posted to give some numbers.

I have a h50 in a push pull config with cougar fans below are the results

Your room's temperature isn't a gauge to use for effectiveness of your cooling setup. The whole purpose of the cooling components is to remove the heat from the parts of your computer that generate heat and dump that heat away from those components. In the case of air cooling, that's inside your case, where it's up to your case fans to replace that hot air with fresh cool air. If all is functioning properly, that means that your computer running at load will warm up the room it's in. Run a monitor of some sort and check what sort of temps your CPU/GPU are at and that's what you should use to decide whether you're running too hot or not

The 70C that your hardware monitor is showing while running prime95 isn't really all that high, my cpu runs cooler at a smidge faster but I've got a big honking heatsink attached to mine
