Budget Gaming - $1000~ to spend

Thread Starter
I have about $1000 to spend on building a new PC. I would need every component (including OS), except for monitor.

Its main use would be for gaming/watching movies.

I really would like an SSD (if possible) for faster load times.
Also, prefer a case that has good cable management and airflow.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

CASE: Fractal Design Define R4

PSU: Corsair HX 650

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K

COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 660 Power Edition

The other posts all have decent suggestions but I will gripe about one thing...

Samsung Green is the best RAM you can purchase for anything close to the price. That is all.

GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $299.99

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-8GAB

AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8320FRHKBOX $179.99

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM $99.99

SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $94.99

Subtotal: $1,054.91

If you have to stay under $1000 I would drop the SSD and add a Hyper 212+ for cooling. This would give you the best gaming performance. If you must hang on to the SSD then you will have to go from a 7950 to a 7870 and still not have enough to squease in a Hyper 212+ for cooling.

SSD's are nice but when on a tight budget I would opt not to get one as they are still relatively expensive and will eat away significantly at the budget of the other main components.

Another possibility to shave off that last ~50$ is to use ASRock 970 PRO3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard instead of the ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ but IMO this is a bad idea as the ASRock 970 PRO3 does not have very good VRM and will thus limit the OC potential of the FX-8320.

The PSU is overkill but it's on sale (through judging by your avatar if you're in Israël you're not gonna find Rosewill products there), it would be fine for future Crossfire.

You could bump the video card to a 7950 if you want. The 7870 XT is the model right under but has a better value for money.

Now that's a great build. Just goes to show how much you can save if you shop around. Also got to love thous Microcenter prices. thumb.gif I would bump up to the 7950 even though its not as good bang for buck. Does that 7870 XT come with any games? The GIGABYTE 7950 that I listed comes with Crysis 3 + Bioshock Inf so there is a little added value there wink.gif
