Worth Waiting for Haswell?

Hi guys. I'm currently running a Q6600 with an Asus Board and I'm thinking about upgrading to an 3570k with a Gigabyte board. Will be getting some RipJaws and a new CPU cooler as well...everything else I'm good on. I want to keep my total under $500 for all new parts.

Question is, I know Haswell CPUs are right around the corner, so does anyone think it's worth waiting for? My goal with my upgrades are not only performance improvements, but lower power consumption as well, but given the expected relatively higher prices of new processors, I'm not sure waiting will be entirely worth it. Advice for someone looking to upgrade now?

If you have held out this long, I'm guessing you aren't in need of anything new RIGHT NOW. I would suggest waiting. Even if the Haswells end up being more than you want to pay, when they come out you ought to be able to save a descent amount by grabbing discounted or used SB or IB stuff from retailers who are trying to get rid of it or other enthusiasts upgrading to the next platform. So either way you win. You either get the newest for probably about the same price as Ivy Bridge, or you go with IB or SB and save a descent chunk of cash.

You guessed right, my current PC does run like a champ. After I dropped a SSD in it, Windows 7 absolutely screams with my Q6600 OC'd to around 3Ghz. I just have that itch to upgrade as I'm now a couple generations behind. You're probably right about pricing and all. Just wonder if the gains over Ivy are worth the wait.

Here is a preliminary bench of Haswell vs Ivy Bridge at same clocks. It could be fake, but the numbers seem like they would be about right. This and another one I saw put Haswell 5-12% faster than IB... So like SB vs IB, with a descent OC the difference would be negligible.

EDIT: Here's the other one I found a while back...
