Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-x voltage locked?

Thread Starter
I am thinking of buying a new 7950 vapor-x but I have heard that it is voltage locked and I was wondering if this is true or not? If it is true is there any way around the voltage lock or would you recommend a better version of this card?

Look up, man. Theres a 31 page thread about this card.

No, its not hardware locked.

There are Vapor-X cards that are voltage locked and there are others that aren't.

What derpinheimer is trying to say is that the voltage lock is on the software level and not on the hardware level. So technically if you flash a BIOS that allows voltages to be unlocked it will work.

The 7950's that come as voltage unlocked are the ones with the Dual Switch BIOS like the Sapphire 7950 OC edition.

Here's a card from Saphhire that isn't voltage locked:

SAPPHIRE 100352-2L Radeon HD 7950 3GB

If you can find the OC edition of this, it's also voltage unlocked.

A guy by the name of Hegemon confirmed it by giving feedback (stating that the card is not voltage locked). If you click on feedback, you should see his comment at the bottom.

Here's his feedback:

Pros: Great card for overclocking. Ive got it at 1150 core clock and 1500 mem clock at stock voltage.

Voltage is NOT locked.

Fans are insanely quiet and the card runs very cool (maxes out at 61c with my overclock using default fan profile!).

Two free games just to make it even more of a great buy.

Cons: I wish the 6 pin plugs were on the end of the card instead of the side.
