Won't people just flock to college campuses or starbucks to download then?
pretty much swimming against the current on this one imo

ISP's are obliged to forward those warnings but there is no law or anything in place for them to take action in most countries. tongue.gif

Yeah, but piracy only got so popular once the Internet happened and people realized they can get this stuff without leaving their office chair. It will always be around, but it'd have dramatically reduced numbers with decent streaming/download services...

to be paid millions though? For maybe 6 months work? The voice of Megatron was paid like 200,000 dollars for 40 minutes of work. Said he half-***ed it himself

correct me if I'm wrong, but an IP address cannot be used to prosecute you. an IP address isn't a finger print and theres no way to tell who downloaded the file. your ISP can terminate your service but that's about it.

This doesn't sound correct to me. It's still your internet connection, and your network. You're in charge of it, you're responsible for the traffic on it, and you're the one who should implement security on said network. If someone left an open network 24/7 and it turns out people were using it to upload/download child pornography, that sounds to me like you're partially responsible still.

To me this seems akin to saying "Oh other people were doing heroin in your house? Well as long as you promise that it wasn't you, and that you didn't know about it, I won't arrest you for having this 8th of skag I found in your bedroom."

A lot of you seem unworried by this, but I always remember that middle aged woman who had to pay nearly $10,000 per song that she "pirated". I in fact question if it was truly her, or if it was simply a similar scenario as I described before and her still having to pay the costs of not managing her own network traffic. Either way, thats a butt load of money. Just remember that not a single ISP will go to bat on your behalf, and they will ALL sell you out to the lawyers looking to sue you into oblivion, so keep that in mind.

I will also agree however, that this seems redundant. I got a letter awhile back for pirating Star Wars Episode 1 from whichever studio had the distribution rights to star wars at the time. I had lost my DVD and only had it on VHS, and since I no longer have a VCR I didn't feel like paying for it AGAIN. Not an excuse, but the truth of the matter.

I stopped pirating awhile ago. I realized it was wrong so I no longer do it. So this really isn't even a problem to me anymore.

Innocent until proven guilty right? So unless you prove i gave him the car with sole reason to kill somebody .... / comit a crime i can't be held responsible.

I think you misread...I said you would not be held responsible for your friend's actions...meaning any crime...but since it was your car that did the damage you'd be responsible for that. Even if some one were to steal your car. If they crashed it into something your insurance would pay for it. Well, actually I believe that change a bit from state to state in a case of auto theft, but if you lent your car to some one or had some one else driving it and something bad happened your insurance would have to pay for it.

Oh...
It is never innocent until proven guilty. Ever. You just aren't convicted until proven guilty. While awaiting a trial in which you may be found innocent or acquitted you may have to be sitting in jail, have your bank accounts frozen, not allowed to travel very far...ect. You may not be convicted yet, but you sure will not be living your life as an innocent person. I hate that saying...it is such a lie.

True story. A couple of weeks ago, I recently moved to a house and signed up for Verizon FIOS, they offered 50 / 25 and I took it. Now before I go any further, I will admit that I do use uTorrent but mainly for shows that arent licensed here in America. I did not launch utorrent between the time we had the service running and when they throttled it. I did however sign up for crashplan so I can backup our family pics/videos. I had that running for a couple of days and suddenly noticed my speed slow to a crawl. I figured at first it was my router but after a reboot I get slow speeds.

Called Verizon to complain, asked if there was an outage in my area to see if that was the issue. The representative who was more than happy to help me looked into our account and told me that it was flagged for P2P activity. I explained to her that all I ran on our line was crashplan, which is a backup service. She understood, told me she'd record it onto the system and offered Verizons backup service. I declined and that was that. My speeds went back to normal.

Wow...that is nuts. So any large amount of uploading will trigger it then? Though part of me can't help but wonder if what happened in your experience is just Verizon pushing their own backup service. I bet a lot of people would drop their current backup solution and sign up for theirs just to prevent any more throttling of their line.

I don't think thats legal though, to purposely slow down ones service and offer theirs. Plus I didn't mention me running Crashplan until after she mentioned our account was flagged for P2P, which might I add wasn't running at all at that time.
