All 7970 reference card exhibits coil whine, you should get the msi twin froze/lightning or Asus direct cu as those use custom pcb with custom components that doesn't coil whine

i am reading up about the coil whine now

should i be using the 8pin and 6pin connectors from my PSU directly (that i can see have gold plated tips inside)

or the seperate PCI-e cables that i have as an addon for my motherboard? does this even matter?

this wasnt happening earlier today, dont know why its happening now :/

try running a heavy benchmark load like 3d mark 2013 for 10 -12 hrs. sometimes the coil whine goes off on its own. here is a user who eliminated coil whine by leaving the card running overnight in crysis main menu screen where coil whine was worst.

May want to consider installing this if you have a reference 7970.

Dead silent at 100% when inside my HAF-X. The case fans are actually louder, lol.

was watching a linustechtip live stream and he said some other parts may make a video card coil whine like you power supply. he said when he was benchmarking he noticed a coil whine on the titan i think but when he switched power supplies the coil whine disappeared you could try that if you have another power supply lying around.

i wish i did frown.gif

im using the 8pin and 6pin that come directly from the power supply

should i try using the PLUGIN adapters that i have? i have a TT 750w TR2 power supply it has 2 seperate pci-e cables i can plugin, i chose the PSU's adapter because i noticed the inside of the connectors looked gold as to where the plugin pci-e ones were silver

also i wanted to save some space wiring so i of course used the ones on the psu instead of adding 2 more lines frown.gif , i may have to try might be my only hope.. what do you think?

I think you missed the point. It's not the wiring its the quality of the psu. Some units get pushed outside their sweet spot and the power they produce is dirtier which causes the gpus to make noise. Before you replace the gpu, it's good to keep in mind the psu "could" be the culprit. It's not unusual for ppl to rma their gpu multiple times only to find they still have the buzzing.
