Best COOLER for 3770k @ 4.8GHz? - Page 3

You could always try Air first ... I can do 4.8 GHz with 1.36 volts (using CPU PLL at 1.89) and stay below 80s ... on my EVO 212. I ran the Intel Burn test to show you those temps (they are high) so you get an idea on what my 212 is handling ... but when I do 5GHz (dont have it stable yet) ... I would not run the Intel Burn test becuase the temps would be too much ... and if your goal is 4.8GHz and are comfortable with temps at 85 or lower ... the cheapest/worst Air option may be "ok" as well as the best option on the list, just a bit hotter.

My 4.8GHz normal load is around the 74, 78, 78, 75 point.

Below the pic shows the max load temp with Intel Burn Test :
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Still new to the OC world and I think I have a "better than average chip" but have seen lots of Air cooler posts that convinced me to give it a try and thought Id share.

I have the same cooler with the extra blade 120 also on my 3570K. The blade 120 is a bit louder than the fan on the TPC 812.
If I would replace it the Noctua NH-D14 would be my choice.

Probably because they don't have a PH-TC14PE to compare to.

I would go with a Phanteks PH-TC14PE and slap on an extra fan.

I've bought PHANTEKS and H100i. I did some tests (in the same rig):

PHANTEKS @ 4.7GHz (1.376v) ~ 72ºC Prime95 (ambient 16ºC)
H100i (Balanced) @ 4.7GHz (1.376v) ~ 80ºC Prime95 (ambient 15ºC)
H100i (Maximun) @ 4.7GHz (1.376v) ~ 69ºC Prime95 (ambient 16ºC)

Balanced, IMO, has the same db that the PHANTE

My RIG has H100i for aesthetics. My brother's RIG will have the PHANTEKS.

You got the temps to back up what all of us who say top air are better than top CLC. thumb.gif

Put some TY-143 fans on the Phanteks and at full speed it will be 5-8c better than H100i is on Maximum... and both will sound the same. TC14PE tests same as SA SB-E and SA SB-E SE. SA SB-E Extreme is 8c cooler than SA SB-E

i7 3820 @4.75GHz
Temperature is delta.

H100 . . . . . . . . 41c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 55dBA 2
SA SB-E . . . . . . 42c 1100rpm & 1300rpm 38dBA TY-150 & TY-141
SA SB-E Extreme 34c 2500rpm. . . . . . . . 56dBA 2x TY-143

PS: Make sure you have a backup cooler for when your H100i goes bad.. Many have and are continuing to get sick and/or die. biggrin.gif

29% of Newegg owner reviews are 3 eggs or less out of 5... And you have to choose one. wink.gif

TC14PE review cons of 3 or less eggs is 11.5% and are almost all ram clearance issues. This is only the new Updraft Floating Balance fan model. smile.gif

NH-D14 is 3% are 3 or less eggs out of
