The GPU power is known. I currently have one 7970 underwater and after this purchase I will get another one more than likely or make due till the next generation.

If you are even slightly interested in the 30" and can fit it in your budget, go for it.
Size is nice, but visibility on the screen is a heavy factor as well. Games like SC2 can benefit a lot from being able to see more of the map since it does not support multi monitors.
How does one tell if the monitor is 10 or 8 bit?
