But the 310 is in that graph along with the 315.

Interesting points. I was considering swapping my H70 for one of these things since they're about an even trade right now but I guess I'll hang on to the H70 until I get a Kraken or something that costs $100 or so.

I don't think anything that keeps a CPU at 30C idle is a very good cooler, my cheap 212EVO cooler could do that with no problem. I guess for 30 bucks it's not much more expensive than a 212, but I can't imagine they perform all that well...

my $600+ water cooling loop idles my cpu at 30*c, idle means nothing, its load that matters.

Yea idle means nothing. And HDT coolers actually 'perform' best on idle/low load. That's why bad reviews sites, like frozencpu, that test low load or idle temps are very minor overclocks, have wacky results and show things like the 212 EVO beating the Silver Arrow. HDT coolers work really low on light loads, and cost low money.

Water coolers in general, and closed loops, relatively, have extremely high idle/low lad temps.

This cooler is a 120mm radiator, it'll cool in the same 1-3*C as any other 120mm radiator, which puts it similar in performance to an H40, H50, H60, Kuhler 620, etc etc, as well as mid-range air coolers like nzxt havik, true 120, megahalems, v6 gt, etc etc.

At $29 AR this thing is a steal. This is also a new series of zalmans that are built wayyy better, they are not going to leak, and they even insure it against leaks.

definitely not. H70 is essentially H80 without the fans.

This compares more to a hyper 212. However, the thinner profile rad makes this useful in cramped enclosures.

I wouldn't say that. H80 is more like a worse H50 that comes shipped with very loud, very powerful crappy fans and then overcharges you on price. An h50 > h70 in performance, just the h50 comes with a slower running fan than the H70 and the h70 has two of them. h70 is a huge ripoff unless you can find one for maybe $20-25.

mind you these are overclocked settings at 4.0 ghz on a 2500k. I can assure you that beyond 4.0 ghz this thing will be hurting. also note that these reviewers need to make the review slightly more favorable... for obvious reasons. but at 4ghz it is as efficient as an H100 (and other water coolers), likely because this is where it's peak efficiency occurs.

Hardware secrets does some of the worst heatsink review around, them and frozencpu have terribly testing metholody.

This is a great mid-range cooler. Like any mid-range cooler, it'll cool like a mid-range cooler. For $29, that's an amazing price on a mid-range cooler. A mid-range cooler does not perform like a low-range or high range cooler. 120mm x 25mm radiator will only cool so much, and no amount of innovation, corsair vs thermlaltake vs antec vs zalman, will make it more than 1-4*C different.

At $29, that's a great price for a mid-range cooler, especially if it's a modern, up to date, and higher end mid-range cooler.

There's a lot of bad information in this thread from people who are just guessing. Zalman really outdid themselves with their new line-up of coolers, it's really unfair that people just guess misinformation and slander a product like this. Then these same people continue buying things like H70s, Hyper 212 Evos, arctic silver 5 and talk about how great it is.

No. You shouldn't pay more than $20 for an h70 but now that you have one, whatever. it's a midrange cooler. It's only 'bad' because it's overpriced, slightly worse than the H50 apples to apples, and corsair just throws in 2 powerful fans and charges a ton for it. It's a midrange cooler just like the h50, just slightly worse than it (like a degree worse).

Swapping the h70 for this would just be a sidegrade. I mean it'd be a tiny upgrade, and you could always sell your h70 on ebay or something and actually make a few dollars in profit since this zalman isjust $29, I mean I personally buy a new cooler every month and then sell my current one and make a few dollars as I make sure to buy them on sale or good prices or used, so in that sense, yes, you could get the 310. If you are asking is the 310 much better, no, it's a mid-range cooler. In terms of mid-range cooling, the 310 will be a degree or few better, but nothing significant.

Like better thermal paste would be a much bigger upgrade. I feel like you didn't really understand my post.

Would be worth upgrading from a hyper 212 evo?

No I got you. And you put that into perspective for me. That's what I was thinking it would be, a slight upgrade and I'd make a few bucks selling the H70 on eBay. But I actually went the other way and got a Kraken X60. lol

i don't think you shuold swap it with a h70, personally the effort it would take to sell it isn't worth the few bucks i would get in return. but this is a much better upgrade for those with the hyper212+

I swear, somehow got a bigger loop for not $600?

I would say to crap with the cheap AIO kits... their flow rates suck, pumps suck, contain 50mL of water, and when that evaporates you have limited options of refilling it.
The long run risk you run of not being able to monitor a reservoir of fluid will result in a CPU BBQ.

But i guess I have a rather biased point of view. Considering buying it for a future build perhaps...
