What I mean is...

I know its a server.. BUT what can the laymen do with this? My google searches has told me its a server and that its business server at that..

but uh.. what can a lowly NON-CompTIA A+ certified computer user like myself do with this?

What use can I put this to...

wait, wait, let me ask what I really mean.

How can I learn from this, what usage or software can I install on this and learn from it and get a HIGH paying job in IT with?

biggrin.gif

let me know..

Well you could have gotten some money out of it if you hadn't waited so long tongue.gif.

There aren't too many uses for a server like that in the home. You could make it into a HTPC I guess.

hmmm, lets try THIS another way...

WHat would you do, yes you Crazy9000, if I showed up at your house with this today and said here you can borrow this for the next 2 years..

What then?

p.s. I assume HTPC means Home Theatre PC.. I also like where the other gentlemen was going.. I will google for Minecraft server, NAS, Home WebServer and see what he's talking about...

I would give it back tongue.gif.

You would be able to host a game server on it if your internet connection is good and the game runs okay on that hardware. In the end, it's just a fancy pentium 4 computer.

I don't mean to discourage you though, it could make a decent HTPC, and might be able to handle a minecraft server or something at the same time. It's definitely possible to get use out of it if you want to.

I have a DL380 G2 sitting around as well. Honestly, it's so loud and uses so much power and is so weak that I haven't been able to find a whole lot of uses for it. If you want, you can run a webserver or a game server, or use it as a network attached storage server, or just install some server OS (eg Windows Server or any variety of Linux Server) and learn how to use them, but you won't be able to get a great IT job just by owning a server.

I think the best use for it would be to donate it to a local non-profit organization of some sort...
