Tiny budget build!

Thread Starter
So my parents are looking for something to buy me for christmas, and well since my cpu is outdated and the socket no longer used I thought I might see what you guys can come up with.

£250 ish budget, I'd go Core Duo but CPU + Mobo = No money left for ram.

I'm quite happy with my GPU so that and the case/monitor/mouse etc don't need to be included.

I'd like something dual core, and preferably a nice overclocker (Good folding power is a plus).

Selling my old parts isn't an option, I have too many needy computers. (Parents 1Ghz Pentium FTW)

If nothing is possiable, I might just get an X19xx and use that for folding.

How about a Pentium D805 + Gigabyte S3? If you get the S3, you've got some upgradeability. Thats around £150 then you got £100 for some RAM.. you'll only need PC5300 for great overclocking on the 805

Make sure to get some cooling on that beast though if you want to hit high clocks.

Judging by what you have already I would say go for:

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard £59.99

And an Opty 165

Not sure where to get the opty 165. I don't know UK stores that well.

and

OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3500 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR CAS2 £125.95

Mostly just the ram, because if you don't have enough money for Ram, you can always use what you have now, and buy better ram later for a better overclock

That's what I'm waiting around for. I'm not upgrading anything more untill I can afford a current-tech system. Not settleing for anything else, that got me in trouble with this system.

What I'd suggest you do (from the perspective of a cash-stapped teenager too young to work a "real job") is ask for cash now, and then save up for a few more months, doing odd jobs and such. Maybe building PC's for freinds/neighbors, so that when you get the new system, you're not left with older tech and don't have to second-guess yourself.
